My Rickenbacker Customer Service Experience

There will always be flaws in instruments. What separates Ric is the fact that their flaws are consistent. This bubbling has been happening for years and they have yet to solve it. There isn't another manufacturer in this price range that has had similar problems consistently.

Sounds like the regulator/rectifier issues in Honda CBR/VFR motorcycles.

Some might not know that RIC doesn't make or sell the case, they supply one to the dealer free with each instrument purchase. The only reason YOUR bass had mold on it was because YOU chose to keep in in your FREE case. I wish these forum people would stop complaining about things RIC has no control over.

I bought six Rics during the "moldy case" period and only one of my guitars gets a white haze once in a while. I got six bad pickups because of a cold solder joint and fixed them all myself.
That wasn't RICS fault either. The government made them start using a different kind of solder. I made sure to send in my warranty cards within the time limit but of the six, they only had five registered. That means they did register 83% which is a "B" in my book and B's are pretty good! I love my RICS, they are all finished in CV and are quite awesome.

If you think that RIC doesn't include the price they pay for "your free case", in what they charge for a bass, you sir may have a chemical imbalance issue. The fact that they supplied the case, makes them responsible for it and any issues it causes.. period.
It certainly is RICS fault for using solder not up the task... they have to live within the same rules as any other Manufacturer... I can't see any company blaming the government for their choice of solder... how the h e double hockey sticks does every other manufacturer do it, without the problems... sorry gotta get make some Koolaid now!

Edit: OP, I am pleased that you are now a happy customer... as you should be.

"Don't have time to do it right, but have time to do it over"...

Yeah, that's real quality for you...

You guys are just haters trying to hold a company accountable.... ;)

I've read so many good things about POTR, I just hate waiting for an order. But after having to wait for repairs, waiting for an order doesn't seem so bad.

What sucks is, the store I got mine from had two of them. I compared them and chose the one I felt was the better one. But I guess you can get caught up in the excitement of buying a new bass and may not notice something as subtle as this.

Anyway, I got my replacement (which I'm keeping my eye on).

The only reason I bought mine from MF was because PotR had no Midnight Blue basses in stock or on order, and that's the colour I wanted for my first new Rick and I didn't want to wait.
Little did I know that MF would have a sale on these very same colour basses.

At any rate, I'm perfectly happy with my bass, and the money's spent and it's worth the price to me.
It's my main player and will be for the foreseeable future, which should be a long time since a Rick bass has been my main player since 1986.

I'm glad the OP had a positive experience, and sometimes a company needs to get its' arse kicked to get in line.

I can tell you this, though - if you get a good one like mine, it will be hard to let go of(provided you like their tone or ergonomics).

I think most, if not all, are good ones. Just with minor issues. I've owned a few and they always played well and sounded killer.

On the subject of QC....I wonder if the Internet has something to do with the perception of lower standards.....before online forums and such people would hear about QC issues by word of mouth, usually from just friends.....now thanks to forums like this you hear about every little problem from thousands of people about every bass manufacturer there is.
Just realized that I live about mile from Rickenbacker's factory....maybe I should stop by and see how things are going.;)

Honestly I have been following them since 2007 and this is one of the few times "bubbling" on a new instrument has ever come to my attention... and the only other one I can remember is the MF thread.

If you're going to make claims like this maybe you should start documenting them or linking. I think RIC has had systematic issues in the past because I was able to see them documented well enough to believe it. This "bubbling" stuff so far is not one of them.

I don't mean to imply you are lying or even wrong about this, just that from my perspective the claim you are making is not accurate; I am open to being corrected on it, but I'm also against people making big statements without a lot of backup.

It's a UV-cured polyester. It may have its issues but I feel like it is such an improvement over the previous conversion varnish.

I have gotten service from them a couple of times and I paid shipping to them, and they paid it for the trip back, so I was out just under $30 each time.

I know you were involved in the MF MID thread and there were at least 6 in that thread alone that had similar issues, including mine. IIRC, you and a few others blamed MF at the time.......

Good luck with that:D

Did MF apply the finish? :D

Why don't you post the exact quote of me laying the blame squarely on Musician's Friend for the basses posted about in that thread, Mr. Cognito. If you're going to "IIRC" about it that is.

That was the only other time I have read about the OP's issue and like I said before, I've been following RIC since 2007 when I first got interested.
