My Skjold Lion's Pride 5 (progress pics, etc.)

Nice basses!

Quick derail question, well sort of...

Is the bridge placement on the LP going to be the same, ie, on the bottom of the body like his other basses, or is it going to be in a more traditional, jazz type placement? I really like his bridge placement on his other basses a lot, but if he used that same bridge placement, it would sort throw off the whole jazz bass vibe that he was going for in some way.

Sorry for the derail!

My understanding is that the bridge is 'fixed' at 18mm for the 'lower end model's, and that Pete uses an adjustable bridge for the 'higher end' models'. At least, that's what is described on the site, and what was communicated to me when I placed my order. While I like the more typical 19mm 5 string spacing, I found Pete's 'standard' 18mm spacing to feel great on his basses.

You are correct sir, I forgot about the B-style bridge on the Stage and Pro Series being fixed. Pete's Custom Skjold/Hipshot Bridge is the adjustable one.

Tom,
Do you have 3 (or more) basses from any other builder?

The reason I ask is that this is really a major vote of confidence to Pete, to have someone like yourself who has access to ALL THE GEAR you have, and to authorize Pete to build....what, 5 basses now?

I hope this signals to other players that Pete is someone that can be trusted to build a high-end instrument.

Well, when these three are done, that will bring me to a total of seven Skjolds, and yes, it should be a vote of confidence! As much as I like Pete as a person (or despise him, for that matter!), I buy his basses because for my wants/needs/preferences/tastes, etc., Pete builds some of the best basses I have had the pleasure to try.

That said, I do own seven MTDs and four pre-Gibson Tobiases (and yes, that should be a vote of confidence for Michael's work!), three Celinders, and multiple Fenders. :D

More traditional. Check out this shot:

Okay, so you stole some of my thunder by having "multiple" basses from "other" builders. Anyway, 7 basses still says something about Pete's work.

Sorry man, but I gotta play it straight. :D Still, Michael Tobias is pretty good company, if you ask me.

Gene,
I think the question has been answered, and Tom posted a picture of the concept. Here is a photoshop rendition of the Lions Pride model of which I am proud to have two in the current batch and Gene, I am in absolute bliss with the MTD 635-24

GAS Strikes. Thanks. I may very well give Pete a call and see if any body/Tops are still up for grabs. Gary

I talked to Pete today for about an hour, he has about 40 to choose from. Don't know if they will last long though.
Don't get one while they are hot, get one because they will continue to be hot, I got two, and of course Tom has three in this batch, that will give him a total of "a showoff" seven:D
Sorry wrong face:scowl:

Oops. I posted this on another Skjold thread. But intended to put them in this thread. I'd like some opinions on a couple tops I saw.

Is the Spalt Maple top too busy do you think? It grabbed me right away, but I wonder if I would think it's too busy? I really like Birdseye Maple FB's, so whatever top I might choose needs to blend well with Birdseye maple.

The other option that I can't go wrong with would be the Quilt Maple top. Get a nice color on, use a Birdseye Maple FB and voila! Pure class!

What do you like better? Spalt Maple or Quilt? Gary

One more option that caught my eye. What do you guys think of this one?

I think it would like really nice with a
Birdseye Maple FB. Gary

Edit: Actually, it would look amazing with a Black Ebony FB!
And it would make a killer Fretless. But I don't play fretless.
But man, I can just see that with Ebony. Even highly figured
Macassar Ebony would be killer.

I favor spalt orver quilt but that's just me. Either of those would be awesome IMHO, for whatever that's worth.
In this particular case, while both are very exemplary, I also prefer the spalt. I've been drooling over that one already.

Roscoe5, have you sent your deposit yet? :D
