I could not find a tracing for this body shape and the geometry is so odd.
So drawing one myself was out. I had decided to print a pic and try and guestimate the dimensions.
Then I find a guy on Ebay selling a X-*** guitar body. (enl-custom-guitars on eBay)
Made to order: Will allow custom pickup routing and locations, as long as you provide the dimensions.
CNC. I specified Paint Grade Poplar.

(Yes I will be making a tracing, perhaps whip out a template and post it to the Bay or etsy ;) )

EMG 40 Nordstrand DC blades w/sealed covers
Black Gotoh Res-o-lite machine heads
Black Aluminum Sadowsky style knobs
Black Babicz bridge
Will likely be passive. (VVT) with an added Series switch p/p on the tone knob.
Top jack
No Pickguard

Neck:
Roasted maple 5 string tilt-back Warmoth head stock with graphite rods and 6100 frets
No front markers only sides
(unless one of you fine gentleman would help a brother out and make a neck for me, Or refer me to another competent 5 string bass neck builder. I'm not confident enough to do that yet. PM me to discuss) I wish Carvin still sold blanks!

@Gilmourisgod
I have an order of solarez on the way to clear coat this and likely future endeavors. Thanks for the pointer !
The other uv cure products seem far less user friendly . I got the grain filler, and gloss topcoat. Both brush on. Which will solve the challenges of spraying outside :) and will likely be cheaper than rattlecan poly since I won't be sanding back nearly as much

I believe they still make drum wrap... order more? :D Although I kinda picture that body in an 80’s Japanese flag / rising sun thing.

Yes they do, I am considering another drum wrap finish, or formica .
Possibly fabric.
I'm staying clear of anything that screams 80s. I am in a country band :)

I'm thinking more Jestsons / space age.

Maybe spray chrome the whole thing.

Or not ;)
Glitter is always still an option.

The options are wide open :)

Id love to hear a review on the Solarez, they keep expanding their product line, might try it myself this next build. I'm looking for something that dries really hard, fast, and scratch resistant, curious to how it goes.
I will be sure to document my experience . I should be able to get a deep finish with this quickly .
Got the "I can't believe it's not lacquer" variety, brush on mix.
Also got grain fill / sealer.

Wait, what? That body shape screams 80s. :eyebrow:
Don't want to make it MORE 80 s. It was meant a bit tongue in cheek ;).

If you look at it from a different point of view , the flying V, explorer, t bird, jupiter thunderbird, are 50s 60s designs originally. Metal flake also. Mid century modern. Adopted by metal bands but mid century designs.

Oh boy, neck to be delivered tomorrow
:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::bassist::bassist::bassist:
Dry fit it to see if any trimming of the neck pocket will be necessary. Am waiting on a binding jig I just ordered. :smug: don't know if I want this to be the first binding attempt...
Black faux binding may be in order.

Need to decide if I'm gonna color match the headstock.
I'll document the process :)
