USPS Shipment is late

I know there are a multitude of reasons for the delay. I just want to hear what you would do.

No, there is no excuse for it. All of the rest of the shippers are getting packages delivered in a timely fashion. If the USPS is that far behind, then they need to do like any other company that is backed up does. Subcontract some of the work out. They should sub out parcel delivery to DHL, Fedex, or UPS, and stick to delivering bills and Christmas cards. Amazon was able to figure it out. For the first time ever, I had Amazon delivery vehicles in my neighborhood. One was delivering small packages and the other one handled the big stuff out of a box truck.

USPS really ticks me off.

The USPS is a valuable service in an almost constant state of planned devaluation. There may be no excuse for it, but there are reasons, well reported, which exist because of things we can't discuss here.

Amazon is, imo, best avoided. ;)

On topic, I have had no issues with recent USPS deliveries that I have noticed.

So I ordered one of my wife's Christmas presents on Amazon on 10 December. Couple days past New Year's, still not here. Got with Amazon, no tracking visible online, no prob, made me a refund.

It shows up in perfect shape 3 days later on 8 January. Called 'em back, paid my bill.

What with the election and COVID and the holidays, they just got run over. Anytime I see a post office van in my neighborhood at 9 at night, I know they're running hard to try and catch up.

I bought a set of monitors from a local online vendor. I've had them in my possession for over a week. That vendor didn't have the XLR's I wanted in stock when I bought the monitors so I turned to another online vendor noted for satisfying a musician's sweet tooth. I purchased the cables and they were shipped on the 4th by USPS First Class Mail.

I sell a lot of automobile parts online and while I am aware of the delays experienced by all the major shippers, I can't really say I've had a particularly difficult time with any of them. Just about everything I shipped to my customers since the first of the year has arrived, safely. That includes UPS, FedEx and USPS packages.

I contacted the online vendor I bought the cables from asking if they had an updated timeframe based on delays. They just said sit and wait or, if you really need the cables, call and we'll see what we can do. Meanwhile, the online vendor that I originally purchased the monitors from has the XLR's back in stock.

So, do I sit and wait for the original set of cables to wend their way through the USPS system or do I buy another set from the online store I bought the monitors from. They didn't seem to have any issues getting my parts to me in a timely fashion by USPS, UPS or Fedex. BTW I'm not blaming anyone. I know there are a multitude of reasons for the delay. I just want to hear what you would do.
Thanks!
Why not contact the vendor? Maybe they can alert the PO as to what the hang up is. recently ordered a baby yoda from amazon for nephews Xmas present( dec.15) it barely arrived this Tuesday!! had to contact seller to shake up the shipping co! I got a lil refund.GL

In the last two months, FedEx lost a set of ear buds I ordered and a vendor printed out a USPS shipping label but didn't ship the item until weeks later.
This is my opinion, I think vendors are still listing items as in stock, even though they are out of stock, just to generate sales.
Hopefully, shipping returns to normal now that the holidays have passed.
My advice, hold tight and wait.
If no delivery within a week, start the refund process. Dispute the charge.

I did contact the vendor. They said USPS was having issues and that if I “really” needed the cables, I should call them and they would try to figure something out.

I don’t want to spend extra for shipping from the Midwest when I have a vendor about 75 miles away that consistently gets there stuff to me in 24 hours. It’s just that at the time I bought the monitors from them they didn’t have the XLR’s I wanted. Now, almost two weeks later, they do have them in stock.

I don’t think that’s what happened here. According to the tracking, USPS definitely took possession of the package on the 4th of January. It left their regional distro center on the evening of the 4th and has not been scanned since.

There's nothing worst than USPS tracking system.
Oh wait there is! Calling their customer support or trying to find someone to help you is worst.
Good luck with your package.

There was a time when calling USPS might not have been the easiest but it did seem to be effective with regard to resolving shipping issues, one way or the other. Then, phone calls became far less effective, usually forcing you to sit on hold for ridiculous length.

Up until recently, even emailing them was an effective way of getting the ball rolling on a missing package. It might take a day to get a response but one you did, further contact seemed to be generate even quicker response from CS.

These days, between COVID, cutbacks and a crushing volume, sadly, all bets are off when expecting USPS to function in an efficient manner. It’s really a shame because I have always had the highest regard for the way in which the provided their services. It never ceased to amaze me that I could hand my postman a one pound package with a shipping label that cost me $7-$8 here in CT and two days later a postman would be handing that same package to one of my customers in San Francisco or Seattle or Dallas, ect. Try that with zuPS or FedEx and see what it would cost.

USPS takes a lot of grief but overall, it’s a remarkable and invaluable service. I always liken the criticism the post office receives to the criticism a waiter or waitress gets in a busy restaurant. There are people who have never worked in a service business and don’t really get how hard it can be at times.

This same thing happened with a package I sent my brother-in-law. Package was picked up by USPS and no further scans. Two weeks later I contacted USPS who could not give me a status because it had not yet entered their system. My brother-in-law contacted me that night saying it was delivered. Status was updated online after the delivery. I would recommend you reach out to USPS (call or email) to at least let them know you are watching it.
