My Very First Big-Kid Rig Celebration Thread

[pics to come]

After many months of deliberation, I’ve finally made what I feel have been the best choices I could for my needs on a limited budget. Just wanted to share my giddiness...:smug::hyper::bassist::D:woot::roflmao::thumbsup:

Just picked up my V-4B reissue and a (beater) SVT-410HLF is in the mail!

Quite an upgrade from my 8-inch practice combo.

What was your first “big deal” rig (and in what year)?

I won't mention the year, as to not date myself. ;) However, I went from a 25-watt Crate practice amp to a rig comprised of the following:

  • Peavey Max Preamp
  • Crown Power Base 2 Power Amp
  • Peavey TVX-210
  • Peavey TVX-115
It was setup in a bi-amp fashion. Boy, did that rig sound like crap, but it was fun to have such a big rig for my first several gigs. I went straight to Ampeg rigs after that.

Technically I played live with a peavey tnt130 from 96 to 03 or so. Kept up with a loud drummer but had to keep to bass rolled down to do it. Just bought a gk 700rb-ii and made a neo 115 cab last month. Inbetween went direct into a yorkville ap3000 feeding 4 15s on 1 channel and 2 210 mains on the other. If I'm the sound guy does that make it my rig that I just let the others plug into?

My first rig was a 60 watt tube amp and a 412 cab that weighed as much as a small continent.

I was always intending to play live and this gave me the fire power I needed to be able to say yes to any gig that came along.
