Sorry, for some reason, I thought you were Gregg! My bad. In any case, unless you have the Ehrlund and the means to do the measures I was thinking about, then you couldn't write the type of review I was envisioning.

No, I do not have the Ehrlund (it seems very good, tho'). I have a Realist (wood) and DPA 4099.

I only got the Myers to hear how it works. I like it. It does not require phantom power and can plug directly into a wireless transmitter. The Myers alone (NOT using the Realist), may be enough for a "slightly" amplified sound. Or, at least to FOH.

I will, most likely, be using the Myers primarily on Violin or Viola.

But as I said, the Myers does sound good. Better than the DPA? I'm not casting a vote, yet. But it is WAY less expensive, than a DPA.

Thanks for the insights. Seems to be general agreement that the Myers is good for situations in which feedback isn't much of a concern. At about 1/4 the cost of the Ehrlund, it would be fun to play with one. The Ehrlund works nicely for me in all situations. It wouldn't do well for stupid-loud gigs unless it was run FOH. I don't play any of those anyway. :)

This is an interesting pickup, just saw it in evul-bay and came here to see what you guys are saying. Suction Cup? I'd never trust that, seems like any change in humidity and the vibrations of the top are going conspire for ultimate disaster/failure. The laws of gravity too.

Back to the drawing board. :-)

Dang that Ehrlund is $600!

I'm going to try the Myers.
Gregg emailed me and said he'd include clips so I could use it with the tuba, sax and clarinet .

They have a very complicated wed site .

he told me to get the Feather series. Is that what you all got or is it a new thing?
There is also a single unit with two goose necks . You could probably put a mic in each F hole?

Yup, I think the Ehrlund is waaaaaaay overpriced. The Meyers is a microphone and would seem to leave you susceptible to the typical mic-related feedback and bleed-through issues. Let us know how it goes! :)

OK. Here is my review. This little things will be great alternative to the more expensive mics for FOH, which I will primarily use it for and not have to lug an amp for some gigs. It does work going through a preamp and into my amp, but does suffer from a lack of volume. I tested it and it was about 1/2 the volume of the realist with all things being equal. It would work well for low volume situations, but for me won't be worth the time to mix the p/u and mic signals.

For the price it is hard to beat and can easily be stashed in my bass bag.

Quick update. This thing shined when I used it on a cello into my GB Shuttle 3.0 8T, no preamp needed. I think it works better on smaller string instruments since the sound chamber is so much smaller and stuffing it in the f-hole works great, unlike with a bass. On my bass it still seems to require a lot of gain (preamp and at the amp) to really get a usable volume. off to the classified section it goes.

I have tried mine with a few different preamps and have found that for some reason the Headway EDB1 gets more volume out of it.

Hello !

I'm about to purchase a DB, and I'm wondering about pickups or microphones.
I just saw some of you use DPA mics, and as I have some 4061, i'd like to know if some of you tried those, how they place it...

simply : will it do the job, or should I directly look for other solutions...

I think you should start your own thread, as your question is not about the Myers pickup, but more general.
