Warwick Hoy- The dude selling AVATAR cabs in Aus must be on a $$ scam or be getting riped off himself. Out here in AUS the AVATAR cabs are very close to what a similr Bergantino will cost ya. :-(

ha, thanks Rod... I've actually just looked at those not 10 minutes ago! that last listing would be ideal (if you think the warwicks are good) except for the fact that it MUST be picked up in auckland. I'm in Dunedin on the other side of the country. Thanks for your help though. You see what I mean about a small selection, besides the two I've listed and the ones you've posted there isn't much else out there...

I feel yr pain. When it comes to deciding on bass rigs in our hemisphere it's really difficult to get to hear/play through a wide variety of ams before having to choose one.
A couple of things to consider... Make a habit of checking out ebay.com.au for bass heads. There seems to be a bigger market than in NZ, higher rotation, and possibly cheaper deals that the local offerings. Even though sellers may not have items for sale internationally, they will more than likely not mind if you ask nicely.... And we run the same voltage. Ironically, I bought my Mesa M-Pulse 360 from NZ recently by contacting the seller in an expired trademe ad and making an offer.
6810's suggestion of a Shuttle 6.0 is a good one. You just need a local IEC cord, flick the voltage switch on the back and you're good to go. They're cheap to import from the US as they're so light and they're a damn fine amp.
Speaker bins are a tricky thing to move internationally, best to buy a good quality quad locally if poss.

I've never played a 15 that i would consider punchy, so no surprise there, but the 4x10 and the 1x15 are a classic combo.
That's pricey.

Here's an idea....If you are mechanically incline and have access to a shop....perhaps you could build your cabs. It may be easier to source and ship speakers and load them into a home built cab. I'm sure you can find some instructions online. I don't know exactly because I've never built my own cabs, but its just a shot in the dark. Then all you'd have to worry about is finding a usable head.
my uncle has made his own cabs, I'm sure I could get some help from him.
in response to the comments about a 4x10 1x15 rig, that was one of the things that attracted me to the original rig. but now that i've pretty much been put of the GK backlines I might try the same 4x10 1x15 setup with Warwick cabs and the profet 5.2 instead... I just stopped in this morning and they have them available so I'm taking my bass in this arvo for a jam.

hey guys, I just went into the rockshop and tried out the warwick profet 5.2 with a 500w warwick 4x10 cab. it sounded pretty nice, but i'm gonna have to tweak it a bit to find my sound. it's definitely loud, i had it up really loud in the store and it was only at 2.5 on the volume... i'm going back this afternoon to pay for it. my only gripe is that it lacks mojo... maybe i can remove the grill and replace it with some sweet vintage cloth...
