NAD! Markbass CMD 121P

Really enjoying this little guy. I would have never through 18 years ago something this light and loud would exist for bass players. I remember my first Peavey combo was probably twice as heavy as this.

One of the best combos on the market. I'm a big believer in MarkBass. Add a NY121 or 121HR and handle just about anything!

One of my all time favorite little combos. Add the 121HR and (for me) an in line stompbox eq, and you have a ridiculous easy to deal with, versatile, great sounding rig.

I purchased a new MarkBass CMD121P a year and a half ago online after playing a friends older CMD121P which sounded great. The description in the ad said it had a B&C speaker and those speakers were discontinued for MarkBass Yellow Line speakers over 3 years ago. After I received my new amp I discovered the speaker badly farted out and distorted compared to my friends. I contacted their service department and contacted MarkBass in Italy when I found out that it did not have the B&C speaker. I got nowhere with MarkBass and They were of no help to me what so ever. I sold that amp and took a huge $ loss. No more MarkBass for me ever again. B&C speakers had a cast frame and heat dissipating magnet structure. Pic is Yellow line speaker with silver magnet. Pic with black magnet is the older B&C speakers with cast frame. Only similarity between these 2 speakers is Yellow Line has the yellow speaker cone. I am very unhappy with this!

I'm confused. While I appreciate your problem the B&C site shows other models like the ones above. Quite a similarity... Are those models inferior too?

The top photo looks identical to the B&C 12CL64 speaker. I use them in my small similar size to the Markbass NY 121cabs and work with great results. But the other photo shows a more robust looking B&C speaker, what exact model is it that?

If you look close at the frame of the new speaker and the B&C 10CLA64, you will see the shape of the stamped frame is different. All I know is I spent a lot of money on a product and the manufacturer was of no help with doing anything about the lousy speaker that distorted and farted out badly even at rehearsal volume which is low . I will never buy another amp from a company that discontinued local warranty service so you have to ship it across the USA to get warranty service. I lost a crap load of money selling it used.

Sound like money first rather than quality on Markbass now.
I been try the demo unit 121P at GC on earlier 2016, really love this baby sound as deep as 15 driver. No fart no distort at 3 o'clock volume.

B+C drivers were a huge selling point for these amps.

I have 121p made 08/13 in Italy. Checking best I could [can only see outer rim looking at bottom back of cabinet]

It definitely isn't 12HPL64 cast B&C shown in picture it most likely is 12CL64 what B&C say they replaced it with when they discontinued 12HPL64[12CL64 looks like stamped speaker in picture] same basic specks and power handling [400 watt HPL/ 500 watt CL/


This is how parts express frames the difference;

"The CL Series 12CL64 12" stamped metal frame woofers feature performance similar to B&C's lightweight HPL Series, but at a significantly lower price."

They have a 12HPL76 that looks like HPL64 but handles 700 watts with 3" voice coil [2.5 on others]
12CL64 sells for $125 and 12HPL76 sells for $195.
