Naked strings

Ordered 3 sets last week... should be showing up any day now...
Been a longtime mostly D'addario user, but have dabbled in lots of others (DR, Fender, Everly, Ernie Ball, Rotosound, etc...). Hopefully they'll offer the .100 size soon, (kinda odd that they don't)

Here's to hoping they are great!

Hey F-Clef-Jef,

We will be adding .100's as soon as we get caught up on current orders. Honestly, I was planning on having more gauge options and materials to offer by now. But, we've been slammed and busy keeping up with the nickel roundwound demands. A good problem to have I guess... but please stay tuned!

Hey Guys,

I'm Co-Owner and Product Manager for Naked Strings...BTW, the website was also designed and built here in Clearwater, FL. They built us a very cool App for building customs sets.... even if their spelling is not so good. The typo has been noted, thanks.
Welcome! Good to hear from you.

Yeah, you might want to have someone who's good with spelling proofread the whole website. SpellCheck doesn't pick up most errors. Some of us are annoyingly uptight about that stuff.

I've mostly used Ernie Ball, Fender, D'Addario, and DR strings up to this point. I'll be checking out your wares--but I'm mostly in the market for medium gauge flatwounds so you probably won't hear much from me until you have those available...soon, I hope. :D

No prob, I'm sure I can somehow make the quantum leap from a .100 to a .105 (.005"! :D) Planning on using them on my Steinberger anyway, so no nut-fit issues to worry about either.

Congrats on being "slammed"!

Okay - got my Naked Strings (3 sets, - .105, .080, .060, .040) last week. Installed them on my Steinberger XP2 (with string adapter), my Warmoth Jazz, and my Variax 700 bass. The strings arrived in a plain padded plastic envelope, no issues with that. Strings were wound together by gauge (i.e: 3x.105's, 3x.80's etc..) that's fine too, although I would have prefered them bundled together as sets. No biggie, as I was planning on installing all 3 sets right away.

Strings are very nice quality, red silk windings (is there an option for no silk winding ?- maybe save a little more $$) I don"t care for the silk winding on any strings, that's just me. Construction is nickel-plated steel windings over a solid steel hex core.

Sound - roundwound brightness, but not too bright, nice punch and sustain. Good strong fundamental, harmonics ring out nicely, but not overpowering or distracting. Balance across strings is good, no volume issues between different gauges of strings.

Quality - top notch, (remind me a bit of Everly B-52's for "feel") nicely finished.

These strings are a bit on the "soft" side, (I do a lot of string bending and "guitar" style vibrato, so the slightly soft feel works great for me. Might be that the hex core that has a little more "give".

I've had the strings installed for about a week now, and so far no issues. They "settled in" in a day or so, tuning has been stable, no changes in tone or brightness.

To sum up: Naked strings are GREAT strings at a very reasonable price. If you are a roundwound player, you owe it to yourself to at least try a set (or 3!). You won't be disappointed. I plan on stocking up!

Hey F-Clef-Jef... thanks for your string review. Glad they are working for you. I have never seen the XP2 adapter and was not sure how the strings would hold while using it. The thread holds the winding from coming loose on the peg end. We could possibly try some without it but so far the thread has not been an issue. As for the hex core, it also holds the windings from coming loose. I have made round core strings in the past which had a more "slinky" feel, but the windings can come loose and cause intonation problems.

BTW, We just added .100 and .050 to our line!

PS Sorry for the slow response. Will try and get on here more. Thanks again!

Short scale singles? I think short scales would be a lot more popular if you could get adult gauge strings for them  . Kinda a chicken and the egg thing for string makers though :( . I'd like to see .040 through .120 in .005's and maybe up to .160 if one was to attempt a "B" .

as F-Clef-Jef said about packing, consider packing them in sets. not by gauge. set packing would be much more convenient, since if i would buy them, i'd buy 24sets. so if i want to replace them twice a month, i would not like them packed by gauge, cos that way they would be exposed to air/moisture/dust/dirt.

set packing.please.:bassist:

It would be cool if in the four string section I could get 65 85 105 125 for BEAD tuning. I have no interest in buying a g string to get my sizes and then throw it away.

Yes, very strange that you can get 30-60 for your 4th string, then only select from 40-65 for your 3rd string, but can get down to 95 for the 2nd, and all the way to 131 for the 1st... it must be a pretty simple fix, just add the options to the site.

You could always wear the G-string... as jewelry, I mean!

Actually you can order whatever combination of gauges you'd like as long as we make them. If there is not an option for your custom set, just select the closest gauge available to get your order started, then email me through the website with your actual set details and we'll custom pull your order. If we get enough request for a certain gauge we'll add it to the website. This is a work in progress!

No problem...we can group them by sets if you'd prefer. Just send a message along with your order that you'd like to have them that way (we've had request for per gauge grouping as well). As for the packaging... All of the strings ship together in one shipping package. That is how we keep the cost down.... hence the name "Naked Strings". Thanks.

Just found this thread and would like to thank CSWStrings for chiming in, with this kind of attitude and customer support you will do fine.

I would love to try you out but as of a year ago I am a flatwound convert...I've sub'ed the this thread and will keep an eye on your site for them to arrive, my father-in-law and myself would love to be able to stop spending $45.00 A SET, especially him, as he gigs out in a blues band 4 to 6 time a mo. and changes his string every 4 to 6 weeks.

I have also sent you a PM.

Good luck to you!!!!
