Name/show me some clunky basses.

I threw this together with parts of two different basses with a lot of innocent wood lost in the process. It's more punky than clunky, but is it in the right direction? Or are we talking big, phat, basses?

Yeah, I followed that thread with boisterous laughter and gusto. How's your hair BTW?

And yeah, no, that's not really what i meant by clunky. It still has the racecar vibe, see. It looks like a bass of someone who has more balls than brains and as eyeballpoppingly manly as that is, it's not really what i'm looking for.

i always considered my '64 St. George to be rather 'clunky' looking:

That is clunky, but I don't find it particulary attractive. Alas.

Indeed, however, if they offered the bass in the finishes that the Jet King guitars have, I'd buy one. The white is nice though.

Yeah I might need to define a bit better what I'm looking for here: It's not basses that are just "different" from a normal fender ripoff, but also conjure up the image of unyielding big muscles and moustaches. Something different and not sleek, but also manly.

Take those Italdesign basses for example. they are different, but more of an artsy art-deco style. not really what I'm looking for, see what i mean? whereas things like ricks and thuinderbirds feel a lot more rock and roll to me. And I don't believe that is solely due to the people they've been seen with either, but intrinsic to the design.

Man, I wish I was more apt at this language thing. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Dark Horses hobo caster is about as unsleek as it gets

Fixed it for ya !

Ive made a couple changes since that pic was taken. I gave it a matching "aged tin" headstock, and I also changed the tailpiece. I used a belt buckle and hinge to make it, and it is more solid that the original version.

When i think of muscles and moustaches combined with clunky, i think of a gibson ripper/grabber/g3.

The Line 6 Variax is big and clunky. It can get any tone you want also.
