NAMM 2007 Pics!!

He stated he had to close the auction because MTD requested that he close it, due to the fact that the price it was selling for was far too low.

;) he must of stole it from them basically then. I'd love to pick up a bass like that but there is no way you could pry it from even my cold dead fingers!

I hope there's more to it than than. As stated here (especially the "had to"), it sounds close to an illegal action (price control, forbidding or discouraging sales at a low price in order to inflate a marketplace).

There's got to be more to it.

This is for James. Stew touched it and so did I. I promise it's not resting on the back of that chair. I'm actually holding it up. I didn't get a chance to play it, but it's a very nice bass indeed. Fred did a great job. I think Stew got a chance to play it a little earlier. Maybe he'll chime in.

I had a great time at the show and got to meet a lot of folks. I'll be putting together a gallery tommorrow.

Thanks! The inlay is some stuff called "Silver Vine" that Gallery Hardwoods imports from south of the states... it's sold and used a lot in knives and such. I've been intrigued with the stuff since I first caught sight of it a couple years back. I doesn't come anywhere near large enough to do a top so I kinda conceded to the fact I wouldn't have any. When I was brainstorming ideas for the bass with Fred and Larry I was wanting to break up the "runway" of a 19mm @ the bridge 7 string Wenge neck. Silver Vine was neutral enough of a color to not be too over the top with the raspberry cream dyed and acrylized birdseye maple body & neck. Ron @ Thorn Inlays were nice enough to do me some blocks :bassist:

NOT surprised. To put that bass on Ebay, I am sure Mike T was not thrilled. There is an agreement between dealers and builders about minimum selling price. Mike T must have felt comfortable enough to let the person take the bass home before the end of NAMM - it is customary to wait and pick up the instrument at the end of the day Sunday- but to have it pop on Ebay- something that just doesn't work- being a delaer selling new basses on Ebay.. and under the agreed price? Very unorthodox.
By the way, Mike Tobias is the man who started it all for me way back in '83 with a Signature 5. It was wonderful to say hello to a friend and living legend - the man is a wealth of knowledge and in my opinion, probably THE most respected bass luthier at NAMM or anywhere. Tons of great new guys, like Carey Nordstrand, Jerzy Drodz and many more. But Tobias broke new ground with designs way back in the day. To talk to him is enlightening.

Got to go the show today for a little while. The EA gear was too cool loved that Micro 300 and the Wizzy 10 cabinets. Mike Dimin was their and I got him to play, man he does some amazing chord-melody work on bass.

Those new MTD black prototypes with interesting, but Michael said they have a 6-string Z bass coming soon. Should be a real reasonably priced 6-string.

The bass I left wanting was a Warrior. Great basses, but very reasonably priced for a hand made bass.

For you who play guitar the new Boss Fender Bassman and Fender Deluxe pedals sounded dam good. I heard Alain Caron earlier in the week play with a pair of the new Roland digital bass amps, beautiful sound.

I got to jam for awhile in the Carruther's booth and that was fun. John builds some really nice instruments.

Pretty good NAMM show only drag is NAMM appeared to crack down on volume so a lot of stuff when demo'd was muffed sounding.

I hadn't been to NAMM in a long time so it was fun.

The EA guys told me the limit was 85dB in the booth. Ambient in the room was 90-92 at the time, meaning you theoretically couldn't demo anything at all. Naturally, everyone was bending the rules all the time. I did see several people get busted though.

I only actually played anything myself at one booth, BSX. The Allegro EUB sounded phenomenal through the iAmp Wizzy combo amp. The tiny little iAmp 300 through the 10 inch Wizzy was way cool too. Mike D sounded great through that rig!

Lots of beautiful basses at the show, but I didn't see any fretless 4s that really floated my boat.:crying:
