NAMM?

We got this message from NAMM just recently:

MANDATORY TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY

New System Requires Requires Residents to Submit Information Before Traveling to the United States

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the coming implementation of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), which will go into effect just days before the 2009 NAMM Show. Don't delay—inform your distributors and buyers about this today.

The new rule will affect the residents of countries currently participating in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), who can enter the United States without obtaining a visa. ESTA will require travelers from these countries to submit basic biographical information on themselves online before entry into the U.S. This is considered an important step for allowing more countries to participate in the VWP.

If you are a resident of a VWP country and have not done so already, please visit [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] to apply for travel authorization online. The tool is easy to use, free of charge and available in 16 languages.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN ANAHEIM

4 Weeks To Go - Here's What To Expect

The NAMM Show is less than 4 weeks away and we thought you might like the inside scoop on what to expect.

Registration Numbers: At the moment the numbers are tracking surprisingly well. We've passed the free badge deadline, so the numbers are now a reasonable indicator of what we can expect.

· Buyer numbers are only down 1% from last year's record-breaking year and are actually tracking 3% above 2007.

· Artist badges are way up! 47%. It's a new category and our members are just catching on to this badge. Hopefully it won't be an area of abuse that we'll have to police more diligently in the future. We'd like to think that we're getting legit professional artists out of visitor badges.

· International Badges, which were lagging way behind for weeks, had a tremendous amount of late activity and are now actually 3% ahead of last year. It's likely that recent lowered prices on airfares have influenced this increase. We have also noticed a much higher than normal amount of activity in just the last two weeks on the www.namm.org web pages that have to do with international registration, visa information and letters of invitation.

· We're happy to report that Visitor badges are down 6% from 2008 and down 23% from 2007, when we began tightening the availability of yellow badges. The restrictions on non-industry visitors under 16 undoubtedly have had an impact.

· The total number of registrants is up slightly from last year.

As hoped, more of our members are opting to not have badges pre-printed and instead have them available for pick-up in "Will Call". We previously announced the addition of two "Will Call" locations - Hall A lobby and the Arena - and we are now increasing the number of stations and staff to keep those lines fast and short.

Don't forget that registration has moved out of Hall E and has relocated up to the 2nd level - Room 201.

NEW PROCEDURE TO MAKE PRE-SHOW MEETINGS EASIER

Another Improvement in Response to NAMM Member Feedback

At recent shows, NAMM began allowing exhibitors and manufacturers reps to hold in-booth meetings on show days prior to show opening. This policy has met with very positive results!

To further improve this now-popular exhibitor benefit, NAMM made a change that will simplify show floor access for buyers who require in-booth meetings before show opening. Beginning at the 2009 NAMM Show, anyone wearing an exhibitor badge with a matching photo I.D., may escort up to two attendees wearing a buyer badge to their booth for a meeting between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on any show day.

The restrictions are as follows: Buyers can only be escorted on show days, and exhibitor and manufacturers rep badge-holders are the only people authorized to escort buyer badge-holders (no other badge types). Additionally, everyone must have a matching photo I.D., and the buyer must be escorted at all times.

I'm in for Sat & Sun - I'll probably be bringing along a new LeCompte TRX Fanned 'Fret' Fretless Fiver (damn that's hard to say)- Maybe Tom will put it in his magazine someday.

Well, it might be a little hard to fit it in there, but if we fold it just right, it might work. :smug: :p

Craig, are you going to be doing any jams at Roger's booth? If so, let me know when you think you might do that, and I'll try to be there! :)

Looking forward to seeing you again.

Tom.

As always I'm available for whatever Roger wants me to do. I've got your cell and I'll keep you hipped if anything cool happens.

I'm flying into Orange County this year and will be in Thursday fairly early, so I'll try and make the Bass Bash.

Looking forward to seeing you Tom. :)

New NAMM Rule: If you recognize someone, go up and introduce yourself to them! Bass friends don't let new bass friends go empty handed without a pint!!! Seriously, there are way too many people that "live" online, yet they don't socialize when the opportunity arises. Just hang out with me and Jauqo and we'll let you touch Verdine's hair. Word. ;)

Jay

I'll be there! I've already got my badges :hyper:

I have a question for you guys 'in the know' out there .How do I keep missing all the cool jams!? Apparently I am out of the loop. Is there some trick to knowing who's gonna be playing where/when? A secret handshake? A Password? hah

Help

If you want to meet a bunch of your fellow TBers.

Thursday night of the 15th and Friday night of the 16th the NAMM Bass bash will be taking place at JT Schmid's Brewhouse and Eatery. And there will be a lot of bass players performing.
