Nashville Bassists?

We've had some Nashville Bass Hang Luncheons. The last one in East Nashville at Calypso Cafe drew about 70 people. It would be cool to do a Nashville Talkbass GTG at Soundcheck or SIR and bring in gear. I'm in.....

You mean the Lower Broadway stuff? The base pay is all over the map these days. As little as $35 per man (plus tips) to as much as $400 for DJ’s, depending on the venue and time slot. As a strange rule of thumb, the higher the base pay, the lower the tips. Some places don’t allow for a tip jar while others expect it to be your income, like a bartender. That said, under decent circumstances you can make pretty terrific money playing Lower Broad with a very low base pay if you can stand playing down there. I don’t care for it much and don’t do it a lot. Will be doing Layla’s on Tuesday, but I don’t do it often.

While I cannot verify personally I have heard similar, that they rates are all over the map depending on venue, date, times, set length, etc. I have some friends that make their living playing the clubs on Broadway, but most can't. Outside of the tourist traps on lower Broad, it's pretty hard to find venues that will pay a band at all, outside of coverbands. Most of what I've seen is bands having to reserve the venue themselves, then charge at the door hoping to make back what they've spent to reserve.
