Nate Mendel Fender Signature

I had a chance to see the latest tour ans Nate does use both Laklands and Fender. It doesn't matter what he is using. I think he is a very underrated player and one of my favorites. Keep in mind I value a quality player in terms of how he/she fits the songs and the music, not by how fast the soloing or slapping ability is.

Here are a couple of recent videos, he is also using a Alpine White )or however it's called) Fender P-bass aside from the CAR.

I emailed Fender consumer relations asking if there are plans and when it may be released and this is what I got back. Maybe it's just a generic response?

"We have no plans at this time to do a signature bass for him."

That kinda slams the door hard! Just buy a new one, put a BA on it, and yer all set & rarin' to go!

Have I ever posted that I think the new Fenders are pretty nice?

I do get what you're saying about the Waters P, but I think this one would be pretty unique especially since they say it has a specially shaped neck. Other than that though, I really do think fender/squier have gone a bit overboard with signature instruments in general.

Looks like this model is going to be coming out, along with a chris shiflett telecaster deluxe model. I would imagine that they are planning to release them either in late summer or autumn. Here is a shot of the back of the headstock.

Here's the video where Nate says his P-Bass copies (Laklands) are better than his Fender '71 P-Bass which he mostly keeps at home now:



I was a little excited about Nate's signature model until I found out it would be "reliced" (fake road worn). That takes extra time & money. I agree that "relicing" will push this Made in Mexico bass over $1,000. My Fender Jazz Bass is a MIM & I think they make quality instruments down there but they could offer a "non-reliced" version for less $. I'd pay $500 max for a MIM.

I heard about the signature model on the FF Facebook page. They just show a picture of the back of a "NATE" signed neck, that's all. Chris Shiflett will have a signature MIM too. We'll see if they actually play them live.

I'm pretty sure the copies he mentions are ones that the fender custom shop made for him, not the Lakland copies.
