I don't get it to be honest. But I commend you on raising money for a great cause!

For good aircraft carrier proportions you could start with a through-body 6 string fretless neck and build body wings around it.

That way you'd be able to incorporate things like pickup location, control knob location, even body shape, into the design.

If you started with an unfinished headstock you might be able to shape it to look like an airplane coming off/on the end of the runway.

Dunno - something like this might add realism. You could probably actually land a plane on it.

Thanks thebrian! In saying you don't get it, do you mean you don't see the attraction of a theme type bass or guitar vs a "normal" one? I assume that is where you are coming from and I can very much relate to that feeling. My personal basses, for the most part, are un-themed though I do have some subtle hot-rod type themes on a few.

The idea is that they tend to do better in charity auctions than a plain vanilla guitar. The themes typically draw a lot of attention too because most folks think they are pretty cool even if its not something they would spend their own money on. I think it helps build awareness for some of the causes in that way. I think the unique designs also help us bring in some sponsorships because it gives parts manufacturers a cool way to showcase their products and their generosity. So in that sense it helps us build the guitars with less of our own cash invested.

It's certainly a fair question, and honestly we did not start out with a plan of doing themes...but as we got into it the idea just seems to work well for charity auctions.

That's what I meant.. I just didn't get the aircraft carrier theme on a bass guitar to raise money for juvenile diabetes. But I like that you do it! And keep it up!! Is it simply just for fun because kids like aircraft carriers (I know I did/do too), or does it have to do with The Navy?

Looks like the monster that Yves Carbonne plays. I love that thing, but can't imagine actually playing it.

I liked the 6 string neck thru idea a lot, but it was more than I have time to bite off and going from 4 to 6+ strings adds a lot of cost.

By the way Munji, a long time ago you mentioned the idea of a Pope Flex in a Mustang bass...that got me thinking and I finally did drop a preamp in my 'stang...but used an Audere instead of a PF.
