NBA Playoffs

I think that Phil's 10 championship rings indicate that he kind of has an idea of how to coach in playoff games. Tonight is the most important game of the series for both teams. If the Lakers go back to pounding the ball inside, the bench players step up like they did in games 1 and 2 and play inspired defense, they'll get the victory. Besides, history is on their side. Having Kobe and Pau doesn't hurt either! :D Go Lakers!!!

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

I think his 10 championships indicate that hes been lucky enough to have some of the best players in history. If he was such a great coach he wouldnt be on the verge of losing this series to the Suns considering the lakers have the most talented team in all of the NBA, id say Celtics are a close 2nd though.

jordan, shaq and kobe didn't win any rings before phil came along. is he a bit of an opportunist? you bet, but he's also an effective coach. calling 10 rings won as a coach "lucky" is stretching it a bit.

i think there could have been some better adjustments in the phoenix games, but i don't think the losses came down to coaching. the zone D was frustrating for the lakers, but at the end of the night they scored enough points and shot a pretty decent percentage. the main issue was the lakers D, i think they just got out-hustled and out-played by a team who wanted the game(s) more. i agree the lakers have the most collective talent, their problem is their focus, especially on the road.

phil is a piece of work sometimes, but this series falls on the players. we'll see how tonight goes... :bassist:

No no i phrased that wrong i meant that his 10 rings are in part because of his luckiness, he is a great coach just dont think he couldve had 10 rings without the players hes had. I have nothing against the Lakers i in fact like them, just think they could be doing better with a coach like...Stan van Gundy (i admit i am biased) but he hasnt always had great players and hes coached orlando from the ground up into an elite team. Phils triangle offense is great but i think he relies on it too much. i cant blame him for being an oppurtunist but i can recognize how much that has effected him, and know that without his A+ teams he wouldnt be as widely accepted as one of the greatest coaches ever. no offense to lakers or bulls fans, i just think hes a little overrated, but still a great coach.

i think there's several great coaches out there that would have done well with the lakers line up (stan, rick adelman, pop, doc, etc.) but phil has a knack for getting the most out of top talent (or reigning in nutcases like artest/rodman). you're exactly right, phil wouldn't have 10 rings with just any players, but he definitely got the best out of them. phil's niche seems to be taking top talent to the next level and coaching them to titles.

About Phil Jackson.....if ever he needed to show how good of a coach he is, it's now. It's tough to call him lucky since he has 10 rings, but as mentioned he's had some of the best teams given to him. Stan Van, IMO, has just proven how good of a coach he can be behind the scenes. The Magic could have quit, but he rallied them back and got them to really believe in themselves. To the point where Boston fans must be thinking "Here we go again." If Orl comes back and wins the series, and 2 Boston teams blow a 3-0 lead (Bruins and Celtics), that would be terrible for the city of Boston. However, they will receive 0 pity from me because they've had enough success in recent years, with the Sox, Celtics, and especially the Patriots.
