NBD - 2013 Modern Player Jazz

Those are the earlier models, that don't have the coil tap & pick-up selector or the hi-mass bridge, suppose it depends how much you want those features. Played one last year, but I didn't like the trans black finish on the one I tried out. Still a bargain, mind.

Can't even imagine why these & the new Squier VM range aren't around in NA now. Unless they have concerns about popularity and are testing them in Europe first.

Dang it!
I didn't notice that.

You can get "current" 5 strings on ebay; but all the 4's still seem to be old model.

I don't get Fender and US availability of various things right now.

Fantastic.
I liked the old one; this is an improvement. What's with fender & squier not announcing stuff just selling in Europe trying to be discreet. I liken it to apple "leaking" their phones. Just spit it out, fender.

That. Looks. Awesome. Do the pickups share pole pieces between strings?

Yeah, each pickup has 5 pole pieces, so every string sits between two. I don't know if that's the reason why it has such a full sound, but somethings making a difference.

I still can't believe how much I paid for this bass. It's fast becoming my #1, so comfortable to play and the tones are fantastic.

It's worth mentioning that the bass feels reasonably light, yet still sits perfectly, zero neck dive at all. It just doesn't move.

I've been doing some looking around.

Those pickups look -just like- the Fender Roscoe Beck pickups.
The coil tapping is different, for better or worse.
Maybe they had to do it different, and weren't able to directly use the RB electronics.

At any rate, there are plenty of folks who will swear up and down the RB basses were the best stuff ever made.

Hmm, you know, I've checked out some pictures and they look identical; string spacing, pole pieces, screws, everything. They've obviously at least taken the idea or design from the Roscoe, unfortunately I've never played one so I couldn't say about sound.
