NBD - 2013 Modern Player Jazz

The youtube review sold me. I was on the fence until i heard that. Listen to all of it, in the second half the bass REALLY shines.. to me at least. I can't freaking wait for my 5'er to get here!! My Sweetwater rep said its shipping next thursday.

To *me* it seems the outer coils are closer to maybe a '70s placement. I could be off, but from looking at it, that's what i see.

I guess you could replace them with other tappable dual coils.
Nord make some; no idea if they'd fit.
After you pay for that, you might as well buy a used RB5 though, IMO.

Do you have a link to the video?

Why they never used the coil tap in that demo is rather mind boggling; let alone that they never touched tone or blend.

I still can't understand that. The things that set the bass apart are completely ignored, and the demo doesn't even show the sound of both humbuckers!

I'm glad they're trying new things, and have a different range to showcase them all, but they've got to show them off to convince people they're worth it.

I just read a review in a German journal about the MP JB #1. They discussed that the pickups are not that hot wired what results in only a little thicker sound of the humbuckers compared to single coils. They comment that if the PUs would be split, they'd might sound thinner compared to the original JB SC sound.

Now for this model #2 I can see that the PUs have less pole pieces (half) and I assume that they are wired hotter. Now the splitted coils in the outer position should be similar to the traditional JB tone but the humbucker configuration might also be a little fatter then in the MP #1 series. Does that make sense?

Has anybody had the chance to compare both series?

I do not understand Fender's marketing in regard to those youtube videos. They are not helpful at all!
