I would not do anything that modifies the body. These basses are fantastic, very underrated and often overlooked or forgotten.

I would've bought that bass for the colour alone. Very pretty and not all-that-common.

Back in the 80s I went through what likely amounts to a truckload of Roadstars and Blazers, and have nothing but praise for them in both 4 and 6 string format. Having said that, I'd refrain from any irreversible mods on that beauty, but it's your Ibby, not mine.

I wouldn't mod it. As vintage Fender P prices escalate these vintage Ibanez basses should become more collectable and valuable. Get a Squier for a mod platform and just rock that red beauty.

I also vote for no mods! I have an 83 Roadstar II and it's still stock.
Great snag for the money, beautiful bass!

I have 2 Roadstar II 5 string basses, one modded, one not.
I wouldn't mod that one, but it's your bass.

The only mod I'd make is taking them ugly speed knobs off and chucking them out. Ger-oss.

These basses are cool and collectable and blah blah blah. But they are never, ever, EVAH, going to command stupid money. I have two of them. Ones getting a Musicman pickup in the P position. It's not totally irreversible but I can still but it back to normal if I want to. It's your bass, do what you want.

It has a poplar/birch sand which body. It's an old drum formula. It makes for a nice complex tonality, at least in drums.

I had one (same color) years ago, and sold it ... big mistake. Fortunately I picked up an 84' RB850 for helping a guy move, and it won't be sold.


Also - no mods - leave it stock. Change the strings, that will make the biggest difference in tone.

I wouldn't do anything to except maybe replace the bridge with a Hipshot Kickass. She's a Beaut! I bet she sounds great too?

She is pretty much all original including the strap buttons and yes the knobs are staying. I don't think Im going to mod just string changes. I'll find another for my double P+ modding.
