Tungsten lighting and photo processing can paint lipstick on a pig. Have you tried a light polish then holding it up under the light to see if it looks better to you? But, the one thing photo processing can't do (save for the debacle of the "photoflame" finished Fender tried for a limited time decades ago) is the characteristics of the flame top, kind of like no two fingerprints are the same. Have you really looked closely at the top to see if the stripes match? They probably don't. But if you are bonding with it, a good luthier or furniture man can help you bring the most out of what the finish has to offer. Nice bass. My favorite color is also blue.

Same model and finish IS the definition of the same bass.IMO, the GC Salesdroid® lied to you. However, it is the same model and finish as the stock photo, so this makes it a decision you will have to make as to whether you keep it/return it/or ask for a reasonable discount to cover his lying about "Oh it's the bass you're getting."
As to the "dullness" of yours compared to the stock photo: digital images may not accurately reflect reality.
Just like the same make, model, options and color in automobiles IS the same car.
If you want the -same same- exact one, you need to be asking about serial numbers.
You buy a brand new car from the dealer and even if it has the same VIN number as the one in the slick sales brochure, it won't look the same when you see it at the dealer.
And this doesn't happen because of digital imagery. It happens because of photographic differences in general. Sure being digital makes it easier to manipulate, but it happens with film too. These days they can "photoshop in" the steam coming off that juicy burger. Used to be they set a pot of steaming water just below and out if the shot. Ever get food at an eatery that looked as good as it did in the TV ad?
Is it lying, or a matter of not asking the right question?
Sweetwater photographs the actual instrument you get if that's important to you. They may not put it in the ad, but you can probably see what it looked like before it was shipped.

I agree. Return it if he thinks he got screwed. But he can buy and return a hundred of them and not get one that looks exactly, or probably even close to, the one in the slick sales brochure.

This is very true. I have 45 days and it's still a beautiful instrument--at least in my opinion. Even Iggy Pop is beautiful to some. Will spend some good one on one time with her, and see if she has a good personality.
That's not how bait and switch works. Looks are subjective, any court in the land would throw a bait and switch claim out immediately.
B & S is when they advertise a low price on one item to lure you in. Then they tell you that the model in the ad is out of stock then they try to sell you something more expensive.
Ever see the the ad photo of a Burger King whopper, then compare it to what you were actually served?

Instead of GC, next time give your business to places that actually take real photos of the instruments - Sweetwater is the biggest one that does it, but smaller shops will do this as well.

Another vote for sending it back. It would always bug me that the one promised was prettier than the one delivered. Not that yours isn't pretty as well but there's a big difference in those tops.
Isn't OP's bass indicative of most tops used by Spector in that price range? It obviously varies but on Sweetwater there's a pretty noticeable difference in average flame tops between the ~$3k models and $5k+ models.
