NBD - A bit miffed

First off, I the bass is amazing looking, I feel your pain on the stock image compare but I still think it looks like a beast. It's sad though GC is fudging up literally new items. They fudge up used items pictures so much... little bit scary! Anyways amazing looking bass man! :)

It was the last one in stock at GC, so I will likely keep it. I do have to say that they did give me a really good amount of money on a trade-in. I was actually surprised. On top of that, this new Spector was $500 off. It was being sold as new--not an open box, or return, or used. It came from the warehouse. I asked the GC salesman if he knew why it was $2500 and not 3k... He really didn't have an answer. On top of that, I got another 10% off. I did the math and it was basically a wash if I'd have sold my bass on Reverb, paid for shipping, and then dished out Reverb and Paypal fees. So, I'm really happy about all of that stuff. I also don't think the GC salesman was being misleading. As others have said, he either didn't know or just misunderstood what I asked.

Either way, I agree with a lot of folks here--the stock photos are touched up. I'm not too busted up about it, but I REALLY liked the contrast of the wings and the center block in the stock photo.

While finish isn't THAT important to me, this one looks super dull. I guess I'm not surprised coming from where I got it.

I doubt that "stock photo" they used was ever in their posession.

A quick google search of "EURO4LTBFG" will come up with that exact image used on a few different music retailers sites. In fact, it is also on Spector's official website as an example.

There is no possible way that the bass you received was photoshopped to look like the one in the example.

Always look for companies that list the serial number you receive, actual weight of the item, and actual photos.

Nothing wrong with the bass you received however. The just doesn't have a highly figured top. You have a Spector! It is still beautiful! Play it! Enjoy it!

I would be a bit miffed. No one would blame you for returning - since they lied to you. But........ you should spend some time playing it. How you feel about it might totally change! You might love the bass and the grain might look just fine.

The finish is not the same, the stock picture shows a black/Blue stained high gloss.
Yours is only blue stained high gloss, still very nice! But not the same to me.

I guess finish on a bass is more important for me than others... i'm ok with that.

The one you got isn't 1/10th as attractive as the stock photo. I rarely complain and have never sent a bass back. But, I would send yours back quickly!

The GC photo has had it's contrast boosted and perhaps other adjustments to pop the flame. It isn't the same bass but the flame or your bass would be more pronounced if you did what they did to their photo. That's no excuse, but this contrast boosting in bass/guitar photos is, unfortunately, now all over the place.

Looks like a combination of a ‘bait and switch’ and a dishonest salesperson to me. I don’t trust Guitar Center/Musicians Friend with regard to guitars. If MF doesn’t have a guitar, their go-to line is let us check with our sister company, Guitar Center. If they say they have only one in stock at Guitar Center, there’s a good chance it’s hanging on the wall. If your GC is anything like our local GC, it usually looks like they’ve released monkeys in the bass department and let them do what monkeys do. I will no longer purchase guitars from either GC or MF. If I need non-unique items like a pedal, accessories, strings, etc, I will buy from MF/GC. (There’s no wood grain on an octave pedal. ) Best of luck to you. Okay… I’ll get off my soapbox now.
