well its hard to truly do as his photo is such low res with horrible lighting. The "touched up" photo of his likes like dog crap still as the source was crap quality to begin with. Any photo the OP takes wont most likely be good enough to get anywhere near what the other photo looks likes for a true comparison.

Two different basses as far as I can tell. I’d be a bit disappointed. Even if it felt great and sounded great I’d still have that “I got conned” feeling. Get off my lawn.

I doubt that "stock photo" they used was ever in their posession.

A quick google search of "EURO4LTBFG" will come up with that exact image used on a few different music retailers sites. In fact, it is also on Spector's official website as an example.

There is no possible way that the bass you received was photoshopped to look like the one in the example.

Always look for companies that list the serial number you receive, actual weight of the item, and actual photos.

Nothing wrong with the bass you received however. The just doesn't have a highly figured top. You have a Spector! It is still beautiful! Play it! Enjoy it!

This is great advice. The bass I recently bought from Indiana Music Garage was the exact same bass they had photographed and it looked even better in person to me.

I guess it all depends on what kind of figuring you like.
Personally, I don't care for ultra-matched/herringbone/BBQ marks.
I'm also a Les Paul guy - so I've encountered this topic quite a few times.
I like to think in terms of "fingerprints" when it comes to grain... the more "unique" it is, the more I like it.

I would send that back. It's not my style at all, but if I wanted something that looked like the stock photo, I would be disappointed in the actual bass the OP received. I wouldn't expect to get that exact grain pattern and contrast, but this isn't even close.

It was the last one in stock at GC, so I will likely keep it. I do have to say that they did give me a really good amount of money on a trade-in. I was actually surprised. On top of that, this new Spector was $500 off. It was being sold as new--not an open box, or return, or used. It came from the warehouse. I asked the GC salesman if he knew why it was $2500 and not 3k... He really didn't have an answer. On top of that, I got another 10% off. I did the math and it was basically a wash if I'd have sold my bass on Reverb, paid for shipping, and then dished out Reverb and Paypal fees. So, I'm really happy about all of that stuff. I also don't think the GC salesman was being misleading. As others have said, he either didn't know or just misunderstood what I asked.

Either way, I agree with a lot of folks here--the stock photos are touched up. I'm not too busted up about it, but I REALLY liked the contrast of the wings and the center block in the stock photo.

I bet you are going to end up loving this bass.

Ok, I tried to take some better photos outside. The sun is coming up and it's pretty bright. I believe they're more detailed than the originals. I think this is going back. I'm OK with this not being the same bass, but look at the complete mismatch in figuring between the two sides. I'm willing to bet that's why they marked this down and sold it as new.

Look at the angled grain coming off the E string corner of the GC photo versus the same place on the OP's photo. Not the same at all, low resolution or not.

Edit: The newer photos from the OP really show the drastic difference in grain between the GC photos and his.

Yeah the flame maple top on yours lacks the Flamed! If that’s your thing I would send it back asap. Completely misrepresented by GC, actual photos are mandatory these days since we purchase so much online. I’m sure GC knows this and they attempted put one over on you.

I kinda doubt that tbh. Grain on the tops of Spector Euros is super inconsistent. Always seems to have been like that. Some have great tops with awesome grain, and some just don’t.

You see it a lot on the used market for these.

In addition it’s just become a normal thing in the industry to photograph these in a way that highlights the grain, that cannot be reproduced in the real world. Doesn’t take a ton of pshop work to make that grain pop, and for whatever reason the bass instrument manufacturers are happy to use that trickery to make money.

A better question next time would be, “can you send me a fresh photo of the bass under your store’s normal lighting, I want to see what the grain looks like in real lighting conditions.”
