NBD: Antigua "Puke Burst"

Is Antigua the worst ever Fender finish?

Well I never though I would be buying a Squier Precision. I've got lots of Fender Precisions from Japan, USA and Mexico but I've been gassing for a version in Antigua.
The original USA ones from the 70s are approaching $3000 in not great condition and rarely seen in these parts while the MIJ reissues seem to be even harder to find.
But then I saw the Squier Classic Vibe '70s version. Unfortunately, it was only available in North America at the Chicago Music Exchange.
Not available in Canada. Pity. I know it's not an exact reproduction of the original but it's as close as I could find.
I figured that this may be my only chance to get an Antigua bass so I managed to finagle one although CME did not want to ship to Canada.
Yes it's butt kicking ugly but it plays pretty good compared to all the other Precisions I own (although I would love to find a MIJ maybe one day).

I like antigua and considered getting this exact bass. I only decided against it because my P-bass needs are covered by another bass already.

I also like the fact that this particular finish draws such a polarizing responses from onlookers just like how Bongos would and frankly that is quite funny to me. For the record I like Bongos too. What’s wrong with me?

Given this rule....

from here on out there will be no more ugly bass threads or posts tolerated in the bass forums, unless you are posting about your own instrument.

too many folks participate here with too diverse a set of instruments for these kinds of threads to end up doing anything but pissing people off.

so if you want to talk about an ugly bass, make sure it's one of your own, or it will be deleted.

....I think no one is allowed to agree with the OP.

I voted no. I've grown to like Antigua - I like the pickguard. There is no accounting for taste.
That…that… :wideyed:

…is pretty much my take on it, too! :D It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I dig it, 'cuz "the subjectivity of taste" and all that.

Even if that was my best friend's bass and he bequeathed it to me after dying because he'd donated his kidney to me to save my life, I'd take that into the yard, set it on fire and bury the ashes in unhallowed ground.

Much to his dismay, I told one of my best friends I was going to buy an Antigua bass just so I could leave it to him in my will. I’m still not sure if I was joking 🤔

I look forward to viewing your Custom Antigua Bongo NBD😜

A solid-colored pickguard would turn that from a dud to a beauty IMO. Maybe cream or black or something. Dunno. But the bass isn't the problem. The guard is. Might look less like it was hit with a can of spray paint.

This is the million dollar question.... Which ones could the best replacement guard?

Maybe a brushed gold?...Or Aluminium?
