A solid-colored pickguard would turn that from a dud to a beauty IMO. Maybe cream or black or something. Dunno. But the bass isn't the problem. The guard is. Might look less like it was hit with a can of spray paint.
This is what I've always thought! It's not particularly the finish on the bass, but by GOD, that pickguard is horrendous!! Change it out and it will just be an ordinary burst bass.

When I was 8 or 9 years old, in 1970, I came into possession of Fender's musical instrument catalog. It was filled with beautiful color photographs of Fender guitars and basses and other instruments. I spent countless hours entranced by that catalog as if it were a magical holy text. Amongst the photos were an Antigua Coronado guitar and an Antigua Coronado bass, and I thought they were so cool and exotic. Because of that childhood memory, whenever I see a Fender with an Antigua finish it gives me a happy, nostalgic feeling. But I've never actually owned one. I wouldn't mind owning one though...

Well I never though I would be buying a Squier Precision. I've got lots of Fender Precisions from Japan, USA and Mexico but I've been gassing for a version in Antigua.
The original USA ones from the 70s are approaching $3000 in not great condition and rarely seen in these parts while the MIJ reissues seem to be even harder to find.
But then I saw the Squier Classic Vibe '70s version. Unfortunately, it was only available in North America at the Chicago Music Exchange.
Not available in Canada. Pity. I know it's not an exact reproduction of the original but it's as close as I could find.
I figured that this may be my only chance to get an Antigua bass so I managed to finagle one although CME did not want to ship to Canada.
Yes it's butt kicking ugly but it plays pretty good compared to all the other Precisions I own (although I would love to find a MIJ maybe one day).

That is kind of a funny way to celebrate a new acquisition, innit?
You have a bunch of other Precisions that fetch higher prices, you think this finish is ugly, and yet went through some trouble to get one.
I am curious about the reasoning behind your decision! (If it's an issue of not knowing what to do with your disposable income, i could do with a Mustang. Yeah, the Classic Vibe in white would do perfectly well, thank you! 😉😬)

And i think Ur Antigua looks great! As for pickguard replacement comments above, I would suggest a dark brown tort pickguard or a gold anodised one but then you would also have to replace all the rest of the hardware to gold which would probably keep you from getting me my Mustang!

Enjoy the new bass!!

That finish does seem to capture the essence of the 1970s.
Putting on my "art student" hat for a moment… 👨‍🎨

That definitely fits. Most of the decade's conventional look can be defined by color schemes that incorporate a lot of earth tones; browns, oranges, rusty reds and, of course, mossy greens. No surprise it would spawn an Antigua burst finish.

Also, no surprise that the push-back came in the form of high-contrasts and bright neon colors typified by the whole late-70's New Wave surge.

Definitely 70s (maybe very late 60s? I'm no historian) color, but something about doing it as a burst renders it timeless. As to whether that's good or bad, of course YMMV. My personal least-fave I'll keep to myself for now.

Did Fender ever do a Harvest Gold burst? That plus the Avocado burst would make for nice bookends.

While I don't really need anymore basses, part of me yearns for the 2014 Fender FSR Antigua Jazz. For better or worse, the finish hadn't fully caught my interest until that special run was over.

And while that vintage-style neck is intriguing, I know myself well enough to be certain I would see how a bound & blocked Classic '70s Jazz neck would look and feel on that body.
