NBD - AVRI 63 Precision - Sonic Blue

The last bass I had was about 4 years ago and it was a JPM/maple America Standard. I actually really loved that bass. It had an amazing feel. I had to sell for financial reasons.

About two months ago I got an OLW/maple America Professional Precision. It was also very nice but I just felt like I need more MOJO so I returned it. It just seemed too sterile.

I had my eye on 58 or 63 for a long time, but of course, it's very expensive. I finally got a great deal on a new one and just went for it. Just like EVERYONE else says, IT'S TRUE, the American Vintage is SO WORTH IT over the American Professional. I had mine setup with La Bella flats and it just sounds so balsy and awesome.

The SMELL of this bass when you open the case, OH MY GOD. It smells like a freshly waxed 60s car. The build, fit and finish is absolutely flawless. Mine weighs 8/13 so pretty light as well (with covers.) The necks is extremely comfortable and to me feels much better than the American standard/pro. It's wide but somehow just feels so nice that way - and I have very small hands (my girlfriend says I should be a women's hand model - LOL!)

Anyway, for anyone on the fence about this bass, just do it immediately. I can't see how you would ever regret it.

Lastly, as people have said many times, pictures do these basses NO justice. They are so beautiful in person.

I truly think the AVRI63 is the best Pbass Fender has put out in a very, very long time. If you can get one at a good price, just do it.

I know of a TB member who actually rides with his '63 AVRI P, in the HOV lane...

I think so. I really like it but there are no reviews and the specs are sparse. Don't even know the nut width. I assume it is between 1.625 and 1.74.

Yeah, I cant tell either. It looks so cool though. The Pure Vintage 63 pickup is special. I will say that plus the fat neck really makes the AVRI63 magical. That being said I have a 70's reissue P with a thinner neck and a different pickup and I have been using it on a lot of records too lately. It has a little different vibe happening that I really like.

I guess my point is that this bass may be a bit different, but it's probably not a bad thing.

Yep, that's what I saw, recently... if I ever indulge in a P, it has to have the smaller neck... Thanks for the heads up!

I hear yah. I have small hands and prefer a thin neck, but my teacher is breaking down my grip and as a result the neck width/thickness may not be as critical down the road.

old 80's and 90s MIJ Pbasses are what you want. Amazing builds and fast, smaller necks. Pickups are apparently hit or miss, but I love mine.

old 80's and 90s MIJ Pbasses are what you want. Amazing builds and fast, smaller necks. Pickups are apparently hit or miss, but I love mine.

My '83 MIJ P has a neck like a baseball bat. It's by far the largest neck of any of my P's.

It looks much more blue in person and really gels together well but the real sonic blue would be awesome too. Eventually, I plan to have this bass refinished in Burgundy Mist Metallic...maybe.

Whoah! Don't paint it. Just buy a burgundy one and sell this to me.

Ok, but they also made them with smaller necks, which is what I have. Easy to get the measurement from a seller.

For me, the biggest neck is the AVRI, but I would never change it. It suits the bass perfectly.

Congrats! I've got the 63 in the same color as well as a 58 in black. Gassing for that Roasted 58 now. The AVRI basses are fantastic.

Congrats! I've got the 63 in the same color as well as a 58 in black. Gassing for that Roasted 58 now. The AVRI basses are fantastic.

I'll probably grab a 74 AVRI Jazz in a few years. Not sure of color but most likely white/maple or natural/rosewood. I'm not a good enough play to deserve both yet, haha.

I did just order a Rupert Neve RNDI for my 63 (and anything else that comes through the studio)
