NBD - Aztec gold Precision..."anniversary edition".

So I just had to do this. It was my 20th year of sobriety in January and my yearly anniversary is my "pass" for a new bass.;) This was the one. I can't say enough good things about it. I thought my '58 AVRI P was the one I would get buried with but now I'm not so sure. I apologize in advance for the dang flash photography, but it's dark out so just trust me...it's lovely. The color I've seen everywhere on line is waaay yellow compared to the actual deal so I did the best I could without natural light. Amazingly easy set up, super low and silky! Fit and finish is top notch, neck is just right on the official "chunk-o-meter" so not too fat, not too thin... substantial C. Got it set up, played it for an hour or so then went to E.R. to get infected finger (unrelated injury) drained and a tetanus shot...but it was the best hour EVER! Life's funny sometimes.

Anyway, here.View attachment 3743213 View attachment 3743214 View attachment 3743215

Beautiful bass and 8 years sober here. Had 25, blew it with a substitute for two years, no booze for 36 (wasn't that stupid), but love that bass.

About 90 days into my sobriety, my cousin OD’d. He was a year and a half younger than me. We were close; we’d been a band together back in the 80’s. (He was the drummer.) There’s not a day of my life that goes by in which I don’t think of him.

About two years after his passing my dad and I went to visit his father. (My dad’s younger brother.) For some reason, I don’t know why, I was really nervous about visiting him; possibly, because I didn’t know exactly what I was going to say. After I expressed my condolences, he asked me what got me to the point of finally getting sober.

Now within the recovery community, this is a bit of a cliche, but it’s a cliche for a reason.
I said, “I finally got sick and tired of being sick and tired.” His response was, “I wish that my Jon had lived long enough to get sick and tired of being sick and tired.” He was 38.

My youngest brother OD'ed about 20 years ago, still miss him.

My condolences twice. My wife lost her son in his early 20s before we got married as well. Like a lot of people, too young, too talented. Used to loan him recording software and he did both music and visual art. I miss him as well.

In all honesty at one point I couldn't get 20 minutes. 20 hours, much less days, seemed impossible. I went to a lot of meetings, more than one a day, every day. Got different associates. Put myself in a controlled living environment and stayed there until I had a foundation sturdy enough to be out on my own again. I had gone from home owning, corporate job having I.T. guy to homeless. I was a severe case.
Most importantly I know for me, anytime I put something into myself that changes my state...no matter what the substance, that is my next new problem.
I don't mean to oversimplify, but it is literally this simple. It is easier to keep a monster in a box than it is to get one back into the box if you let it out. I don't open the box. Feel free to pm me if you need to.
Thanks for replying to me I’m trying but I find it hard to change I’m a heroin crack addict I’ve been over 4 month without a pipe which is something But I can’t stop the shooting up heroin listening to you gives me encouragement I live in the uk and there’s little to no help where I live it’s either methadone or subutex which since I refused help I’ve now been off methadone 8 month and crack 4 month so I’m making changes I do want be clean and hopefully one day soon than later I will be

My heart goes out to you and just don't ever give up. Look for NA/AA meetings in your area. Go to whatever might be available. I've done both because it doesn't matter what your thing is, it's all the same as far as getting stopped. When people ask me my drug of choice, I just say "more" as that is an honest answer. You are worth it and I'm pulling for you. Again, you can pm me anytime, I'll even give you my number.

Kind regards mark

Beautiful. I've had my eye on that fender since Namm. It's the only fender bass I'm interested in
Totally beautiful instrument and now I am even more motivated to save my nickels and dimes after your glowing review. Congrats! Out of curiosity are the pickup poles flush with the tops of the pickups? I can't quite tell from any of the pictures online. Trying to determine which pickups fenders using. Thanks man! What a great gift to yourself and what a great reason to buy such a great gift.

They have raised A poles. Same as in my '58 AVRI it appears. Sounds really God. I would say scoop one up if you are so inclined:thumbsup:

Congrats on the anniversary as well as anyone who is working hard to stay clean or sober.
Just celebrated 14 years 2 weeks ago.
@Marky83dam I was in England 8 years ago and sought out meetings.
Everyone was very cool and welcoming. Hope you can find a good meeting and some solid support mate.

Edit: great looking bass!

Beautiful! So, this is an Anerican Original? How would you say it differs from your 58 American Vintage?

The neck is a little chunkier, but not a ball bat chunky. It's a smidge heavier, but in all fairness the AVRI I have is the see thru white/ash body and it's just a silly light piece of ash. The fit, finish, overall quality are identically delightful. 2 desert island basses.

You lucky guy. Someday I'm going to take the vintage/original P Bass plunge. Enjoy your beautiful instruments.
