NBD: Beautiful P Bass

Today, it all came together. A fellow forum member (@jmon) got this 2011 American Special Candy Apple Red in my hands. It has a wonderful Aguilar 60’s Era pickup in it. I had all the hardware and flats, so it all came together wonderfully.

It’s punchy, smooth, and oh so comfortable. This thing may actually be lighter than my AV ‘63 P Bass, but I haven’t weighed it yet.

I have a Jamerson-ish project about to start; I think this will fit nicely with the tonal needs.

Dude I fell in love with pbasses recently I just can't get them out of my head. And I was a "j guy" all my life. Now I love them both. But those groundshaking lows that p bass has..dude it's one way ticket to happiness

I was a Jazz Bass guy the first five or so years of playing bass. While I will always have a love for them, I’ve found that P Basses have become my go-to the past 20 years. They just have the perfect tone for what I need live, and I play a ton of gigs.

I play in two bands:
5 piece extreme metal band with my J. You know I take advantage of those highs and the classic j growl.
The other band is a stoner rock-mostly instrumental trio. You know, slowed down sabbatish riffage and a little touches of psychedelia...i use my p with very old roundwounds.... you know I know my P can't get the job done in the extreme metal band (jazz bass is strung with stainless steel rounds) but when I play with my j, I really miss those lows that the precision has.

That is a true classic beauty ! She's the Ava Gardner of P basses.

This is my first American Special and I didn’t know what to expect. I’m pretty critical of basses when I get them. My summary findings are that the American Specials are of identical quality to the American Standards/Professionals in terms of materials and finish work. I am truly impressed!

I never liked playing guitar until i got my american special strat, it feels amazing
