I hit a few pawn shops today and picked up a bass I've wanted since the late 80's. A MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special aka The Duff GnR bass.
The color is well....very 80's. I'm 42. I couldn't care less if it's hot pink. And yes. It's hot pink. Not salmon. Not reddish. Not chartreuse. It's hot damn pink.
Now the important stuff. It's light as a feather. It has the TBX controls and plays and sounds great.
Good thing our band is doing a few Iron Maiden and Judah Priest covers. This bass will fit right in. I can't wait for rehearsal tonight. The comments should be great. For $200 I couldn't resist.

You should wear high heels, black panty hose, a pink tutu and mickey mouse ears while playing that bass.

I kinda like that color. Has a lot of Pep.......to. 
Really, I dig it. I second the idea for matching strings. I had a Dean Custom Zone in the same color and it attracted a lot of positive comments and "wows".

Just got back from practice. It got a unanimous thumbs up. It still needs some tweaking to get the action perfect but the neck on this us just so comfortable. Just a really nice Jazz neck that's had 25 years to break in.
I haven't played a bass with the TBX in about that long, around 1990. These pickups and electronics sound great.

Japanese Fenders of that era are supposed to be good quality, I've heard. $200 sounds good to me. I'd rock it.
red strings would make the body look a little pinker by contrast. those big-pole pickups are da bomb.

My main axe now is an 87 fretless JBS. The neck! The neck! The neck!
Mine didn't have the original knobs either and talking to a buddy once who owns a jazz bass special also, he mentioned he didn't like the original knobs so he had them in a box. I bought him dinner and a beer in exchange for them

See now you've got an edge on the competition when you go to audition for that 80s tribute band.
The look will be perfect for Poison covers, but the bands you mentioned? No way.
Will sound great for them, however.
Oh, and let me add, great score on that bass! I'd snap that thing up in a heartbeat for that price as well. I love it that color and would rock that mother! My band does lots of 80s stuff, including Poison, so it would be the perfect bass for me.
Ummm... by choice or not I'm pretty much in a 70's/ 80's tribute band right now.

Nice score. I had one back in the day, but it was pearl white. I stripped the paint off in the '90s and found nice wood underneath. I sold it a few years ago and now regret it. Sounded great strung up with DR hi beams.
Is the back of the neck painted or bare wood? Mine was painted with the same black as the headstock but I remember seeing later models with the back of the neck bare.

Cool! Do you guys do the whole hair/makeup/spandex/muscle shirt thing? There are a couple 80s tributes around here where I am and the bassists in these bands actually play a non period-correct instrument which is kinda weird.
