And I'll add that I've had the upright strings on now long enough for them to settle in, and playing it now is like a new NBD all over again! New samples soon.

As threatened:
I think the real upright strings give it an even deeper "woodier" voice. Gotten a little better at recording without so much noise as well. This is both pickups on full, no effects.

How do real upright strings work on a 34 scale instrument? Does it employ 1/4 scale strings?
Specifically which exact upright strings are on this bass (if you don't mind me asking).

Dave Smith of Smith Creek Mandolins / Christopher DBG sent me the strings - they're real upright strings trimmed to fit with the trimmed ends clamped / soldered or something - but they sound marvelous, don't they?
They work great! Feel and sound both are wonderful. They're full scale D'Addario Helicore (Orchestral, I think) heavys, trimmed to fit, with the trimmed ends clamped / welded somehow for stability. Dave Smith, user @Christopher DBG here, the builder, Mr. Smith Creek Mandolin / Christopher DBG, provides them with the basses now as stock I believe - I got mine later because the original stock strings were electric bass strings (LaBella 1954 Deep Talkin' Flats, maybe? Would have to look up now.)
