NBD! Coolest Ibanez Ever!

Oh, yeah, definitely (I even mentioned that in one of my posts) but it's quite different in that it has a flat top different pickups (especially from the LP Recording bass) and a full pickguard - whereas the guitar is a les paul standard with a second cutaway and nicer inlays (this is not a dig at it - they are REALLY nice guitars and I personally would rather have one than an LP - but it is definitely more conventional than the bass).
EDIT I take back everything I said about the guitar (if the person who mentioned it means the same era) the guitar from this era is a guitar version of this bass - so not a direct LP ripoff but of course similar to the LP recording in a very 335 looking double cut.
No doubt, also a very nice guitar based on it being a high end Ibanez of that era - but I can't honestly say like I can for the latter ones of which I've played a number.
This lead me to a quick search of the artist and musician basses (this artist evolved into the artist bass that evolved into the musician series through about three incarnations) and I found the 1981 catalogue with Sting and John McVie endorsing the musician - John's playing the elusive 8string musician basses which isn't even listed in that catalogue. Being a pioneer of 8 strings (Hagstrom of course inventing it) it puzzles me as to why now that 8 strings are more common than they've EVER been, that Ibanez doesn't have one in it's line.
Seriously, Ibanez - you need an 8 string in your lineup (likely in the SR line - but an 8 string Talman would be super cool too and probably an easier conversion for production) - really any 8 string Ibanez would be super cool and well received.

Hmmmm. I was gonna ask about string suggestions actually. Thanks. I feel you on the 80's Ibbys. I have two 86 roadstars.

For that really vintage LP bass type girth I'd recommend TIs. Those flats have some surprising mids that'll give your electronics plenty to sink its teeth into.

But what I think might work even better since you're considering black nylons are a set of LaBella Copper White Nylons. I've got them and they're amazing. Give them 24 hours to settle in. I think you'll really like them.

Thanks. I had a set of D'addario Tapes laying around. Right now I'm digging them. Maybe I'll post a video later.

That'd be cool! It's not every day we get to hear a rare bird like the one you've got. Especially one owned by somebody who can actually play.

Why is it that YouTube is loaded with so many videos of people who own really cool basses that begin with the dreaded opening: "Before I begin, I have to confess that I'm really not a bass player. And I don't own an actual bass amp to demo this with. But anyway…here goes." :rollno:

Haha. Thanks for the kind words. But I have lot to work on. I'm good in my limited area but always trying to improve. Thanks.

Not to threadjack you, but since there's so little about these basses on the web I thought I'd post another short video of mine. Recorded with my iPhone and pulled from my Instagram account so the quality is not the best, but still listenable. Hope you don't mind.

Don't mind at all. It's definitely in the spirit of the thread. I own the bass and I'm as curious as anyone else about it. Plus your tone and playing is completely different from mine. Awesome work!!
