In regard to the bass, congrats! I love the body style, though personally I'm not the biggest fan of the pickguard.

Just had this delivered to Guitar Center Last Friday. Picked it up at lunch.
Active with Dean J style pups which are on the hot side. Trans Black. Neck is really nice, no sharp ends, narrow, thin and satin back. Nice and fast. Gotta get me a Tort PG

That's a Jon Hill thing. It's different and I like it, but I am thinking tort for my transparent black like this one owned by @BradWorld Bradworld's is a USA Custom Shop Hillsboro Bass in Trans Black over Swamp Ash with a matching headstock and USA DMT J pups

This is what Jon Hill's doing now since he left Dean.

2005? Jon Hill didn't start with Dean until 2009 after Dean Zelinsky left (Elliot Rubinson had hired him in 2001 and Zelinsky left in 2008)

I have the 2009 USA Prototype above
Two MIK (2011 Eric Bass Gold MM style pup MIK and 2013 Trans Brazil Burst P/J MIK)
and now the J in Trans Black Flame 2010 MIC
The Hillsboro did not appear in any Dean Catalog until 2010
...unless you saw some prototype before Jon Hill joined Dean, but the Hillsboro is his design

I think I'd like to try one.
I like all the options...black hardware would look great on plenty of finishes.
I would like to see a really bright orange with a tort guard.
Speaking of which, man, he even offers pickguard optons!
(Even though I don't see tort)

I have yet to see another Hillsboro P/J

These both have the ABM style High Mass bridge

Man, Deans seem to get ignored here and I never see one in person, but those Hillsboro j basses have always seemed killer to me. Love the black and tan. Score!

You didn't see my face....it was much worse than his...lemee tell ya!

I had one identical to that, great bass for the price- way better than any of the "Skwyre) stuff.
(PS- tort will look like crap on that, IMHO)
