NBD - Fender Am. Standard Precision Bass

:hyper:

Got my new Fender American Standard Precision in this morning, a Charcoal Frost Metallic with Maple FB from AMS. The wife let me know that it had come in this morning (Hmmm... I should have probably warned her that I bought it and it was being delivered today *) so I ran home at lunch to take a look. After a (altogether too) brief once-over, everything is looking good with it.

It's my first real foray into the 1.65" nut/9.5" radius necks - all my other P basses (past & present) have the 1.75" nut/7.5" radius. It definitely has a different feel on the neck (but that may be the gloss and euphoria involved in the fact that's it's taken me about 25 years since I first started playing to finally get a P-Bass with a maple fretboard - I took a few extended breaks from playing).

I'll have to break out the scale tonight but the bass feels extremely light compared to my 94 MIM P and my Squier VM Jazz. I didn't even get to plug it in as of yet, to hear how everything sounds... 5pm can't come soon enough..

Pics to come later this evening (And crappy cell-phone ones at that, my mom-in-law ganked our camera). But for now, here's a stock photo of the bass.. :p

Holy cow, that just outright looks like a black bass... No, it's really CFM.. I swear

Now with unspectacular pics... I'm hoping to grab a camera this weekend and take some real ones, maybe do some artiste' type shots with my month-old son.

My wife actually really likes the color (I kinda told her I chose it because it's the same color as my kid's eyes... shhhh)

The only 'mod' I've been considering for it is a new pickguard... What color? No clue.. From what I've seen of others so far, I've liked the B-W-B the best... Then again, so far, I've only seen W-B-W & B-W-B, so if you have some CFM P's (or even J's) with differeng PGs, please post pics & inspire me!

I got to plug it in for a bit... Love the sound... Still getting used to the neck... It's feeling kinda foreign to me at the moment... Honestly not sure if its the finish on the neck or what... My black P is 17 years old so the finish has worn down a bit and the Squier VM J has a naked feeling neck.

I did get dirty looks when I told the wife that it seems unbalanced, having 2 P's and just one J, and that I needed to get another J to even things out... :ninja:

Now you just need a Jazz with a rosewood board. You can tell your wife that the rosewood matches her beautiful eyes. Surely if it worked once, it'll work again.

Congrats on your new bass. I love the finish with the maple... and i'm not much of a maple guy.

I've got both(maple P, rosewood Jazz), but I only wish the Jazz had the same neck width as the P. The Am Std. basses from the past few years are some of the nicest production instruments made, definitely worth the $$$!

Congrats on the new P, you'll love it!!! :hyper:

TY All... And it does look like a bwb pickguard is in the future for the bass....

Hehe Thanks... But trying that will surely get me killed as my wife's eyes are a beautiful stunning blue and if I mentioned I got the rosewood to match her eyes... Well.. That'd be frying pan to the brain pan time...

I've actually started looking at a Warmoth build for a J...I figure if I buy it piece by piece, and put it together behind the scenes, she may not notice as much... I'll just point to the cc receipt for the body or something... 'See, it was that much!' <CONK> It'll never work, She knows better... Sigh...
