NBD - Fender Am. Standard Precision Bass

They did have an AllParts pg, so I figured I'd give that a whirl. It doesn't have the truss rod notch, but such is life. When I got home I slapped it on the bass. All the holes lined up (which suprised me for some reason). The result had a definite impact... I think the bass looks a bit more aggressive now.

The black looks MUCH better on that bass! As for the truss rod notch, you can create one with a Dremel tool.

Ok I stand corrected, the black looks way better than the white.

I concur 100%.

Sadly, taking that picture seems to have attracted unwanted attention in my neighborhood. I took out out in front of my house (East/West facing house, sun was better for it), and some random guy with some gang style tats comes up and starts asking random questions, scoping out the interior of my car (parked outside the garage, I was home at lunch) and then the same guy shows up at 10:45 ringing my doorbell, waking my kid. (Screaming kid or answering the door to a stranger, what takes priority? :P ) So, this morning my mailbox has been removed from the post and is sitting on my lawn... Joy. Sounds like time to get my serial numbers stored in email, and the glock loaded.. :P

Put a sign on your front door: "It's a MIM."

OK - Delivered and PG changed.

Thanks for the inspiration.

:hyper:That is a sweet jazz... How's it feel? :bassist:

I've been GASing hard lately for a jazz to 'even out' the Precision to Jazz ratio at my house, but for some reason, I'm chomping at the bit for one with a nice pearloid b&b rosewood fretboard. Unfortunately, Fender only seems to offer that in either the classic 70's (MIM - not that it matters to me, but the lack of body color selection does) or the AmDeluxe.

I think I'm going to go for a Warmoth build for my Jazz. Find a nice lightweight body in the showcase and commit heresy by having an Antigua burst done to it. (The Antigua 70s jazz from this post in the Fender International Color Series thread makes me feel a little funny in my special place). Load it up with some good parts and toss either some Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups or the Dimarzio DP123s (Model Js) in there and move back and forth between my basses.

Very playable but in need of a setup for certain. neck is smooth and fast - 8.8 lbs on the scale.

I do have to say - these newer Fender strings (by D'addario?) kinda suck. :eyebrow:
Definitely not the same vibe I get with the older strings on some of the Am Std's in a local shop last year.

Dare I run another 'what strings for my new bass' thread?
Nah - plenty to read from.

I'll have to do some searching about putting a smaller gauge 'E' in the same nut slot that the .110 came in.

Anyway - these pics were to show the OP how he inspired me so I guess we can be P-J (not to be confused with P/J or even PJ's) buds.:bassist:

I suggest giving the whole context a chance. I did, and am less and less hating. And I'm old. crotchety, and stuck in my ways.

C'mon, let it go for a couple of weeks. I am starting to think that the stock string choice was not random, motivated entirely by cost -- it may even have been calculated from a musical perspective!
