NBD: Fender American Professional II Precision

Well damn. The replacement arrived today factory sealed. I don’t want to start bashing so I’ll just say I refused it because of contamination in the paint finish. Then I asked for the last one they had in their warehouse. Should arrive this week. Hopefully 3rd time will be a charm.

Unbelievable. Well actually believable unfortunately these days. Good luck.

Thanks man. I really just wanna jam on my new bass but not gonna compromise on the fit and finish.

Wish you luck on the 3rd one !! Lots of manufacturers send out new instruments with issues nowadays, I read the same in Lakland and G&L forums. Very nice style by the way, there may be lots of Precisions out there, I've always owned one for 45 years now !! Hope to see some pics of your new one that's perfect, have a great day/night and always own a Pbass !

Third time was a charm. Got a keeper today!

Hope they threw in some extra goodies for all your trouble! Glad it worked out. Enjoy!
Thanks! I got a decent discount off list price so I’m happy. Sounds killer now that I got the old trusty D’Addario strings on it! Now if my backordered Ampeg SVT 50th Anniversary amp would just come in then my GAS will be cured hahaha!

Congratulations on a fantastic P. I have the same but in sunburst with maple neck. Do you find that these need a stealth retainer on the A string?

I have not, but I do make sure that the string winds toward the bottom of the post so it is at a steeper angle to the nut.

I had need for an A string retainer on my Wilkins P/J. I got one of these:

Did the job.

Well this bass was a bust but in a different way than the first two: the truss rod doesn’t work. I put on lower tension strings than the Fender ones and when I went to loosen the truss rod to relax the neck it was already completely loose! No room for adjustment and it’s not like I am using small gauge strings. (45-105 D’Addario). Man I’m bummed…

I'm sorry to hear that, I've had issues with necks on MIM Fender Precisions, I had a 2017 and 2018 that I had to return for refund (Fender refused to fix or replace either). Being that is a new bass, you may have to contact Fender to see if they will directly fix or replace it. If you want to go that route, you can take it to any Fender authorized service center in your area, with receipt and they'll fix it if it's possible or try to get Fender to replace it. Other option is maybe get a refund from where you bought it.
Sorry again, I know from experience how frustrating and a let down it is to get a new bass and it turns out bad.

Thanks, they are crediting back to my account. I’d prefer to have the bass but not like that haha. It is a bummer though. I’ll keep looking for a good one. I have a sweet 2008 American Standard Precision but I really prefer the satin finish on the necks of these Pro II basses. T

Lots of people get good ones, it's a crap shoot. Maybe you'll have to buy one through a different source. I have one 2011 MIM Precision still, the neck went bad on that one also but I replaced it about a year ago and it's been good. I do like P basses, iconic and they get a good sound, I like the body shape a lot. My first bass was a Precision, nice straight forward controls. Good luck man !!
