and yes i'm a fan of the bass body and neck but did not like the pickups at all and changed to those arcane 65 experience and a million times better.

Respectfully, I find the p'ups on this bass to be the finest I have ever heard by a wide margin. Just goes to show that tone is a subjective, rather than objective, thing. The '62 AVRI p'ups are good too, but could NOT be more different. I have one of those in my '04 Am Std. Different tools for different jobs, but I think this '63 P will get to see at least 80% of all my future gigs.

The dots are small and tan-colored. For extremely highly skilled bass players like me, this is not a problem. I am kidding.

I have two of these '63 AVRI Precisions, so I will be selling one. Here. 3TSB/Tort. I just need to stop being lazy and list it.

Agree, I would not swap out those pups. Congrats on your 63AVRI - mine is the white version and I love it.

What kind of whiteout pen and does it leave traces on the instrument or dots that can't be removed and is it as reflexive as the tape?

I've been using this for about a year and a half. It doesn't leave a trace by the time it's all rubbed off. It doesn't seem to be damaging the finish but I hesitate to promise that that is indeed the case. I'm never selling my '63 reissue so I'm not concerned about that anyway. I usually get a week or two before having to reapply, which I can't say for any of the stickers I've tried. It's not reflective at all but it's still perfectly visible on a dark stage. It's a far from perfect solution, but it's the best I've found. Try at your own risk.

A million times? Wow! And the '63 pickups are already my favourites besides the Häussle ones on my '74. But started to like the '62 ones on my Duck Dunn, too.

it is of course possible that i happened to get a lousy set of pickups by chance, cause i have read in the past that many are very happy with these.
fender pickup production may not be an exact science .
the best p bass pickups i have used are the ones that come with the fender custom shop 57' basses. would be fantastic if one could buy these separately.
the arcane pickups are close, but the ones that came with my particular 63' av bass bore no resemblance to a great precision bass pickup somehow.
just a regular case of bad luck i guess .

Totally agree that they are the best production Fender ever. Just awesome all around. I waffled between 4 and 5 string for a couple years and can't afford to keep everything so I sadly moved mine. But seriously love every little thing about these. Mine was the olympic white rosewood. Just all the thump and growl for days.

Me too, still have it. To the best of my knowledge it’s called Seminole Red. Absolutely beautiful color and, frankly, the white or whatever it is hsc stirs up my hormones too. This is the bass player’s bass.

I own the sonic blue version, as well as a sunburst '64 AVRI. These are really special instruments. Not sure what your tone preferences are, but both my P and J wear Fender 9050L flats and they really sing with these basses. These are forever basses and I had both of them professionally routed for easier truss rod access - money well spent.

They call it Seminole and I think it’s the same pretty much as Dakota red.

This IS the best production Fender P bass ever made. Though, I do admit, the clay dots are visually appealing but can be hard to see and disorientating at times. These basses are real old school thumpers!

Now, in terms of THE best OVERALL production Fender ever made, I’d have to go with the Roscoe Beck Jazz Bass. But that’s a different kettle of fish......

And yes, the stock pick ups on the ‘63 AVRI are keepers.

HEY - so this stunner showed up last week ... I expected great, got AMAZING. One of the best off-the-line Fender Ps I’ve ever owned, and a dead-on ringer for the model that inspired it. Can’t keep my eyes/hands off it!
