NBD: Fender P Bass JR

Well, I dont have it yet. Just bought it online! Been looking for one for awhile but they were $600+ and extremely hard to find as they were only made for two years. This was also one of the VERY few made with a tone knob, most just had a volume knob. Right price on Reverb, jumped on it a few hours after it was posted! For those that dont know, these are basically just a shrunk down P with a jazz styled neck. They are a 28.59" scale, 38 1/2" overall with a 9.5" radius and 1.5" nut width. Bridge and pickup are same as the full sized P. Should have it next week!

I imagine that the reason they fitted that bass with a string-through bridge was so that, with that 28.59" scale length, the silk on a standard set of short-scale strings wouldn't wind up in the nut slots.

Edited to say: never mind: I was thinking backwards. More likely it would be to insure that all parts of the strings that got wound onto the tuning pegs would be covered with silk.

Just got it today and wow, this thing is crazy! Im used to smaller SS basses and this STILL feels like a toy. It has to be 3/4 body size and its got a 28.65" scale, feels like a kids instrument. It can't weigh more than 6 pounds. Don't even need a strap! I can literally hold it and play it haha. However, the sound is pure P bass! Thumps and growls just like a full sized P bass. Would be perfect with a slightly bigger body and a 30 inch scale! Im still digging it though.

For a point of reference, here is the P Junior next to my Mustang bass. Most consider the SS Mustang to be pretty small to begin with, looks like a full size bass next to the Junior
