NBD Finally!!!

Love basses like that. Neat find. Reminds me of a review video I saw on YouTube for a similar bass where the person behind the camera said things like "made of treewood, crafted under socialism". Cracks me up.

Weird soviet and Japanese basses just do it for me.

I think it actually looks pretty sweet. It's just tiny...

I expected it to be much smaller, but it's a full sized axe. It's a 32" scale, and the neck isn't that bad... I still have lots of cleaning to do. The fretboard is a mess, the frets are tarnished, and some of them are scored.

BTW: I didn't buy this to be my go-to bass. I grew up during the cold war hearing how the only thought of every Russian was the overthrow America. I think it's cool to have something that was made just to be fun.

Hopefully, I'll have some fun with it!

(I'm going to start learning the bass line from Back to the USSR!)

Cool, but not sure it's authentic. Old Soviet bloc stuff comes in giant tuna cans with Cyrillic characters on them.

Is that tuna or mackerel? Is that yours? Have you tried them?

in 1975/76 I worked on a commercial fishing boat when the US still had only a 12 mile international border (it's 200 miles now) We used to run into Russian factory ships on a regular basis. One time our gear got crossed and we got dragged backwards for a half hour. When they pulled their gear, we came alongside so they could put our gear back on our deck. I ended up trading the Calvin Klein jeans I was wearing for 6 liters of Vodka, two tin's of caviar, 6 tins of macerel and a Navy hat with a CCCP logo on it, which I wore for about 10 years.

And yes... I ended up wearing my tidy-whitey's under my Grundig's until I got home, but it was worth it. That was awesome vodka!

I found it on eBay. I've been watching them for a while, and the price keeps jumping around. I got this one for $78 US and $70 shipping. It's in great shape, and I've just finished cleaning 35 years of Russian finger funk off the thing, and I've started putting on some strings. (used D'addario Half Rounds)

There are a couple of them on there now, and if you like I can see if the guy I bought mine from can find another.

Here are a few shots... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I included shots of the wiring. The pickups are wired to the three buttons. The neck pickup goes to the front button, the bridge pickup goes to the middle button, and the rear button seems to be connected to a couple of cap's on the buss with the three knobs. Any idea what the knobs and buttons do?

The 5 pin DIN has 3 pins connected, but at the other end, there are only two wires. I can put a multi-meter and figure out which is which, but which one should be connected to the center of the guitar cable?
