NBD: Geddy Lee MIJ Jazz Bass!

My first ever Jazz Bass! Just back from a fresh setup. I put on the black pickguard. Not sure exactly what year, but SN suggests 2007-10 from the Tokai factory. Might change out the strings. I have on Roto nickel rounds on there now. Open to suggestions.

Mmmmmm, pretty. I had one of those too, great tone and super thin neck. Unfortunately the neck warped and I let it go. I'd get another in a heartbeat, those CIJ Geddys were beautiful....

Beautiful. I have the black pick guard too. I like DR Sunbeams on mine. Best sounding Jazz bass IMHO and I also have a regular Jazz bass. You won’t regret it at all.

I used to own one just like that. At the time, I didn't get on very well with the neck, so I sold it after about a year. Kind of wish that I still had it now that my playing style and techniques have changed quite a lot since then. They are really nice basses. CIJ and MIJ Fenders are so well made. Congratulations!

Yeah the neck is really skinny which is awesome and makes my hands feel giant but it could mean frequent truss rod adjustments and I’m a little nervous about taking off or even loosening the neck. I prefer the wheel on the Stingray but what can you do. Had to find the right Allen wrench to adjust the Badass bridge but the truss rod just requires a regular Phillips head right?

Pretty sure it's a flathead (remove pick-guard) I adjust and swap necks all the time until it finds it's sweet spot and final home with a bass (never had a problem) Musical chairs but with necks.

Made in Japan, or just crafted in Japan? I had a 99 that was MIJ. Good bass. Pickups were a bit weak and the neck almost too thin.

Made in Japan. I've read that "made" and "crafted" are basically the same thing, but the MIJs are more coveted for some reason. Without doing a direct comparison between the two I can't say which one's better.

So- I have a (2004) MIJ GL neck on a P body (assembled on 2012) & has been my main player since then. No issues with neck- adjust the TR every so often. I use *this* for TR adjustment... my body already had a TR notch but, as mentioned earlier, if you cut a notch in the body you can just remove pg for adjustment... pg will ‘hide’ notch. I actually did that with the bass in my Avatar.

I also changed to black pickguard. CIJ 2004-2005. I have Rotosound

roundwounds on it. I put DR Black Beauties on 2 other basses. The DR's seam to last longer.

Mine is a 2004 and is my primary player. I LOVE the neck and the stock pickups have a great bit of grind to them when dimed. My typical setting is the neck pickup dimed and the the bridge pickup at about 8.5. Full and fairly even across our frequency spectrum.
Mine had neck dive and was a bit heavy. I replaced the stock tuners with Hipshot Ultralights and it lost 15 ounces out on the headstock.

No more neck dive and now the same weight as my G&L LB-100 (P Bass). They are my 2 main players!
