NBD - Got another Jazz

Back in December I got the blue flamed maple jazz that GC had on sale for $649. And now they have a green one on sale for $649.

Originally I was going to take a 2019 Player Precision with a FCS '62 P pup, Hipshot drop tuner, and gold brushed aluminum pickguard in to GC and trade it in. But I plugged it up today and said nope, it's staying put. It's been a great bass, I just don't pick it up very often due to other basses.

Anyway...
So I went on to GC, they had one of the greenies. A little fret spout, nothing major, probably will go away now that the bass is no longer in the store at meat locker temps. It was pretty cold in there. I'll give it a week and see. But just my mentioning it got me a free, slightly used Gator hardshell case.

So how does it compare to it's blue twin that I already own? It sounds a little brighter, but the blue one I got in December has gotten a lot of playing time and still has the stock rounds on it. Other than that, both basses with everything dimed, sound identical.

The setup, like the blue one, was really good. The blue one is just a hair lower, but both basses have shocked me coming from my local GC. I haven't touched the setup on the blue one, and doesn't look like I'll be touching it on the green one either.

Here's the confusing part though about these basses.
The blue one was made in 2021 and has a 75th Anniversary stamp on the headstock.

The green one was made in 2022, so no 75th stamp. Instead it has a Fender Special Edition decal.

I've run both serial numbers through Fender's serial search, and registered both with Fender as well. But when you register the serial numbers and it shows the info on the basses, they actually have different model numbers. I guess they're considered different basses, not the same bass or model available in two colors. Here's a comparison pic of the two.

Bought the Blue Jazz yesterday in Corpus Christi ! Be glad to get home to play it…

I guess we'll call this a jam report.

So today I and another musician I work with, a guitarist/vocalist, worked for 3 hours today on some original material. I only used the green jazz today except for a comparison I did with the blue jazz for a minute.

The bass feels and sounds awesome. No different than the blue one. Haven't touched the setup, and like the blue one, haven't tuned it either. I'm not used to this bringing a new instrument home and not touching the setup or tuning. This is twice in a row now from the same GC store. And my 3rd bass over all from 4 that I have bought there that was dang near perfect out the door.

The sound, well it's your typical Jazz bass sound, not really anything that I can say about it other than it sounded really good through a GK GL500 pushing a NEO IV 212 cab. No efx in the signal chain or loop. Just straight up bass in your face.

As pretty as the bass is, it's a tool first and it does it's job very well like one would expect from it.

The neck felt fine, felt even better today than it did yesterday and felt it's best after being played on a few hours today.

Compared to the blue one, like I said in an earlier post, new strings vs older strings is really the only difference between the sound of the two basses. The green one of course has new rounds and sounds brighter, the blue one has the same stock rounds but with 3 months of playing on them. So it sounds darker.

The biggest thing about this Jazz, as well as the blue one, and even my 2019 Player Precision, is this... Ensenada Mexico is turning out some quality instruments. And Guitar Center running these sales is putting some really good instruments out for a decent price. Sure there will be some lemons and qc issues, that's with anything that is mass produced. But so far I haven't ran into any coming from Fender and I now own 5 Fenders, 1 Am Performer, 3 MIMs, and one Indonesian(ABG)

A little heavier maybe, cheaper bridge and tuners than my Am Performer, for half the price on sale, I'll take one any day of the week.

I picked up a blue one in Buffalo yesterday. Wanted the green but they only had the one on the floor.
Blue, green, they're both gorgeous. How does your's play and sound? I'm really curious as to how good the QC is across the board. I know back in January they sold a lot of the blue ones and there were a lot of happy new owners raving about them, myself included.

No issues other than fret ends. But that is an easy fix and commen on mapel necks. I have 11 Fender basses so far it feels as nice as my american ultra. I did take a green Scotch bright to the back of the neck. Loving the neck pick up sound as I play Ps most of the time,

I'm a purple guy big time and I would definitely pick one up if they made it, but I am not so sure it would beat the green. That green burst is beautiful.
I am not taking anything away from that green or blue at all they both look uber sexy I'd still stand strong that they need to all come in a 5 string option and add purple as a option tho

Oh yeah, I would also love a purple option. Don't really care about the 5 string option, but purple definitely. I've been eyeing the new SBMM Ray34 in Purple Sparkle, but after seeing the recent issues with the tuners on those basses I've decided to wait a bit. Now a purple Fender Jazz bass would cure that GAS altogether.

Purple, red, and yellow bursts would all be cool. But they need to wait a year before they do them. Let me enjoy the two that I've gotten since December first

They need to do a purple five string version either sans pickguard or do one without the hole under the guard
Unfortunately the MIM lines all have the CNC hole and the neck pickup rout to the control cavity under the pickguard (I wanted to use a clear one on mine). It's a shame, too, because those tops look great.
They seriously need to come out with a purple one. It'll beat out the blue and green in competition!

Hmmm...
Now why did you have to go and do this? @Clark W is still trying to enjoy his two without this added temptation.

If they released it tomorrow I guess I'll have 3 Jazz basses. Heck at this point I might have to sell off the MIM Precision, or the Am Performer Precision P/J, or both :D

I've played the P/J twice and the MIM Precision once since I got the blue jazz back in December. And of course yesterday was Green Jazz day, all day.
