NBD: I guess I'm a Jazz guy after all

No worries, will give them a go, hopefully they last as long as Pressurewounds!

Speaking of Pressurewounds...

I tried the Rotosound Solo Bass 55 (stainless steel pressurewound) before trying the Ultramags. Surprising enough, the UMs (roundwound) actually felt smoother under my fingers than the SB55 (pressurewound). I guess that's the difference between stainless steel and Alloy 52.

The UMs on my Sandblasted J are only two and a half months old. I intend to keep them on there to find out how long they retain their useful tone.

Also they each have different pickups, the Sandblasted has CS60s, the Special has American Standards from 2011 and the other I am not sure about but I think they are Standards. The Sandblasted is also made of Swamp Ash adding another difference. They all sound unique in a J Bass sort of way.
Really? I thought it had mexi parts and the grease bucket which is why I dumped it

I also have this ;)

There is a lot of mixed information on those Specials. I called Fender and was told American Standard pickups but other people were told Standard (MIM) pickups. The one I had did sound a lot better than the MIM I also had at the time so who really knows. The tuners and bridge on the Special were/are definitely MIM. I’m also not a huge fan of the grease bucket as it has a limited use case in my opinion.

2011 American Special Jazz in Olympic White would have come with a black pickguard originally. But the previous owner of this bass swapped it for a red tort, which turned out to be a wrong one as it didn't allow the truss rod access at the heel. So, I had the brown tort ordered.

I would much prefer the dark brown over the red.
