NBD... Ibanez SR805, aged whiskey burst...

Congratulations & Compliments @Spidey2112 :thumbsup:

Love the whisky-burst... always been a sucker for a reddish sunburst finish. I had the C.F. Martin & Co. Custom Shop do a similar burst on my 00-18 retro-build a couple years ago.

Curious what your impressions are on those Bart soaps after you've had a chance to play with it. (I have a similar set put up for a future project)

She's not too keen on technical details, but Jeannie especially likes gold hardware. Well, really anything shiny catches her eye. :D

Thanks, @EdwardofHuncote! Agreed, on the finish! The nice thing with the Sweetwater closeout (and my being in the moment, of course) was their availability, but they were going quick... actually saw another I liked, but didn't remind rep to save it... I later compared pics of it, and the one I purchased, and I think I came out ahead... I like softer (well blended) edges, around the perimeter, and a lot of the SR805's left were way too dark, for me... each his own, right?

As for 'our' sweetie, I'm going full bling, as I know this will at least turn her head my way...

They had lighter ones available, but I kept it close to 9, thinking differences in weights were more in the bodies, not the necks... the end game, less chance for neck dive with a slightly heavier body. 2. I removed a couple of hang tags with Elixir's branding, so safe to assume... they are bright, plugged or unplugged.

Plenty of tonal options available.

Note: Based on Ibanez's online specs for the SR805, I was under the impression the mini toggle mid freq switch was a 3-way select... the pic above denotes the active EQ utilized, as well as the 2-way switch for a 2015 SR805 (Thanks, @hypercarrots!)... 2016 production included a different active EQ (ICE), as well as the 3-way mid freq switch upgrade.

I know... long-winded... I should have chosen a career in radio.

Interesting. Catalog shows aged whiskey burst was a new color for 2016 so I would've thought it got the newer eq. Looks like there was some carryover of the old eq with early 2016s with the new finish or aged whiskey burst got some early release in outgoing 2015 models.

I always heard good things regarding Ibanez, wanting to give them a try, and after playing it (mostly unplugged, of course... see 'intermittent output jack'), really wanted the deal to work... Dan saw to it, that it did... 20 years ago, the dent alone would have forced a return... funny how the ole OCD takes a backseat, when kids come along.

Probably right, @Killed_by_Death... that particular weight is good for me, neck dive, or not... I use a 4" strap, which helps, also, with the weight... IIRC, the weights I saw over a couple of days ranged from high 7's to mid 9's... I picked one sort of in the middle, just to be safe...

There was a SR300E at our local Ibanez dealer that felt like it was less than 8 lbs. & w/o neck dive.
My SR eXtreme & SR1800E are only barely over 8 lbs. & also have no neck dive.

This is the bad thing about shopping online, otherwise you could have tested out a 7.x lb. one & realized it has no neck dive.

It's too bad you already fixed the jack or you could return it for a lighter one :wideyed:
but they probably sold out when they had that special

Yeah, I checked that out, as well... did you go the other way, checking out the 2014 catalog? (for the upcoming '15's, which I think is where mine lands)... the Ibanez final inspection tag reads August 2015... carryover is fine, as long as the customer knows what they're getting...

Like hotcakes, I tell ya'... I'm estimating there were about 10 left in stock, when I started looking at them... curious, I checked a couple of days later, after ordering, and they may have had one left, online (they were displaying them 4 at a time, with serial numbers and weights)
