NBD Ibanez SRFF805 Fanned Frets!!

Always wanted to try the fanned fret world. Well here we go. Just noodled for a few minutes and already see it is a quick transition. Very light also!! My XB75 Carvin Is 35 1\4'' scale so not much of and adjustment.

Wow I have to disagree. I have a Carvin XB75 35 1/4'' scale and the Ibby B blows it away! I found with the mid switch all the way down, pickups panned center, boost slight bass and slightly on the mids and Boom! The B rings like a bell. Tight, punchy, and clear as a bell. The neck is a dream to play. Thin and fast low action. Have you heard about the custom Nordstrands? A little over $300 bucks. I haven't heard much of a review though. Would like to hear the difference. Big Spits. The LTD looks awesome! Nordys?? Still not similar price, $400 bucks more. If you need to change the pup's then $400 bucks more not bad!

Stock strings. I use lo riders on my other basses. will have to give them a try! Yes I like the pickups and balance. Other FF seem so extreme and useless for chords in the higher registers. What gauge do you use on yours??

I would love to try a proper dingwall so I won't knock em. But I really do find this mini fan very useful and comfy.

I am tuning ADGCF using rather heavy gauge DR DDT. It's pretty nice. I think medium gauge Lo-Riders would be great for standard tuning.

I am in no way trashing Dingwall. Lots of love around here, and I would like to test drive one. Just pricey for me LOL!! I do like the less extreme Fan. Was easy to settle into.

Wish you have change to try the LTD B1005SE after your honeymoon with SRFF.
You will found how the different in term of tone balance from B to G string than SRFF.

Not sure if it's a honeymoon, just a first experience with a multi-scale bass. No LTD dealers in my area. If I run into one I will surely give it a try. Might have to take a ride to Montreal Canada. Only an hour or so from me. I will find one up there for sure. How is the weight on the LTD?

The pickups on the SRFF805 in the video are made by a company called MAMA. Italy I think. I will investigate. Yes the companies name is MAMA and they make pickups for guitar and bass, also custom build "SRFF805" pickups and others. Out of Italy. They claim to be better than Nordstrands. Certainly sound good!! $400 euro! That's $465 US dollars! Ouch.

Still liking the bass? They just took a major price drop and might get one! With the price drop and a trade I think I'm looking at about $475 out of pocket.

Yes liking it very much. Very easy to adapt to. I replaced the pickups with MAMA Pickups. Made in italy. Was able to pick them up used fortunately. Huge tone upgrade from the Barts. Purchased them from Salvo in the video above. Those are the pickups i am using.

I just ordered one. I'd read the moderate fanning was easy to transition to. Due to old age, arthritis, and diabetic neuropathy my lead guitar playing is suffering since I started back. So I am thinking of switching full time to bass if I gig again. More bass jobs, besides. :D So I needed a backup for my SR375M. Hope I like the SRFF. It'll be my first fiver.

Any problems for you guys when switching back and forth to a regular 4 stringer? What about switching off with a fretless 4? Am I likely going to have a tough time moving between these three for a while?

They also made the 4 stringer SRFF800, but why it'll be your first 5er? Your SR375M is a 5er... :confused:

FWIW, you ought to get a very good discounted price for it as the SRFF series are now being replaced by the new SRMS series.
