NBD: Jackson JS3V

The brown truck just delivered this beauty.
Here are my initial thoughts.

I love it.

Tight string spacing - way tighter than I am used to but that isn't a bad thing.

I thought this was a 35" scale bass. Musicians friend says it is 35" and Jackson website says 34". My measuring tape said 34" scale.

Weighs 9.0 lbs on my bathroom scale.

Pickups are hot and very nice to my ear. Seems really well made and solid. Bridge is beefy and preamp has alot of gain.
It definitely has a metal edge to it with the headstock and shark fins but I dig that.

Its a departure from my other basses which is a requirement. Sounds nothing like either of my laklands.

see I told you those were 34 in that other thread. I don't think they will ever make a 35, and GLAD it arrived safely and met up to your satisfaction to the "it better not sound like my other units" statement.

I really like these and as a huge Dave Ellefson/Megadeth fan, I would love to have one. Just don't have a good enough reason and/or a bunch of extra cash around!

i hear you. i had the 326 it was a great deal for what i got for sure.

I know that the ellefson version is 35 in but Musicians friends site is for sure wrong wrong on this bass scale length.

the setup was really decent
most people could probably live with it just out of the box.
I tweaked a bit.

I emailed musicians friend about updating the description on this bass.
35 inch scale is not accurate. If I knew in advance it was 34 i might not have ordered, other people might be that situation in reverse. Either way they need to have accurate info.

If by chance a 35 in model does exist and I was shipped a 34 : I think I will exchange
even though the B string is quite nice in this guitar.

its a thin neck and rather flat feeling. not as round as I am used to.
very tight spacing for me. It will take some getting used to for me.
I do like the compound radius Finger board.

The tone is great. Has a lot of edge and bite to the attack.
High control adds alot of sparkle to the sound.

What do you think of the preamps bass, treble, and mid controls? The one I tried, may have had weak battery, dunno was store demo, had very poor sounding tone controls, esp midrange. Itd be nice if that was due to bad battery though.

Good to hear. One I tried was medium output, so prob weak battery. Will reconcider geting one. Though I'm supposed to be being very happy with just one bass, instead of seriously concidering getting a 2nd again.

Is a 34.5" scale bass. An "almost" 35"...

So they're 34s after all? If I can get a sweet deal on one I will probably buy one. Wouldn't pay full price for it, not because its not worth it but because it would be a compromise to my preferred scale length.

how tight is the string spacing? 16mm?

1.75" nut. Same as an Ibanez SR and many other 5-stringers, probably.
