It happens to me every few years: I feel the need to add a Jazz bass to my collection. I readily admit that I always go back to my Precision bass. That said, the new American Pros are something special. But, new they are going for $1500. Worth it, but more than I want to spend.
Walked into Guitar Center on Wednesday. They’ve had an American Pro Jazz on the wall for a while and I’ve played it every time I walked in. This week it was marked down to $1199! Foul temptress. I wanted to jump on it but couldn’t pull the trigger. Earlier this month I traded in an old amp head for a $200 gift card (didn’t feel like waiting for it to sell here ... I tried) so I thought to myself that’s only $1000 for a new American Pro. But still, couldn’t do it.
Today I got the email from GC that changed my mind - they were doing some deal until Sunday where you get $10 in gift cards for every $50 you spend. In this case, that means $240 bucks! The way I figure it, I’d spend it there anyway. In my sick twisted mind, that means I got this bass for $760. Less than I would pay used here - I was trying make deals here! I know it’s not exactly that, but it makes me sleep better!
Anyway, it’s a beauty. One of the nicest Jazz basses I’ve ever played. I feel like I’ve said that before ...
