And then I noticed the pole under the E string is taped over. Why is that?

It's so, when the previous owner wailed a bit too hard on the E string, it didn't make a huge thwack when it hit the pickup pole.

The tape is there because I normally place my thumb there as a pivot and it buzzes when I touch the pole piece

Thanks! TB was actually the inspiration for BC. When I started out playing there wasn’t anything UK based so I used TB a lot but was frustrated that I couldn’t buy anything and nobody knew what certain swear words I’m not allowed to post meant.

Cheers, I’ve got Cobalt flats on this in the lightest gauge which match the size If the Elixirs I put on my other basses. I think the tension is about the same as the TIs I used to use. I haven’t used flats for a while but they just suit a P bass down to the ground.

Rather pleased with this one. It’s cleaned up really nicely and sounds great. Love the tilt neck, I’ve been able to get the action spot on. The neck is straight as an arrow. Some pics:

Knacker is an archaic term for an old horse, "the knackers yard" (aka dog food factory) was where they sent them when too old to work. Knackered now just means beaten up/old
