NBD: MTD 535 Nebula Fade

Believe it or not I wasn’t going for Mardi Gras fade...it was a happy little accident. Lol

I didn’t want anything flashy so we originally decided on a grade b birds eye board. Mike called me before delivery to inform me that he made a “mistake” and upgraded the fingerboard to grade A I was blown away when he sent the pics.

That, sir, is one hell of a happy mistake!

My Ray has a roasted maple fretboard that I just love. I had never even thought of birdseye, but man, I bet a birdseye roasted maple board would be just killer...

He does a roasted Bem board, roasted necks and bodies as well I believe.
The new stingrays with roasted necks are dead sexy. If they came back out with the hs pickups I’d be all over it. I had a pacific blue burst hs 5 that I sold like an idiot. Great sounding and playing instrument.

And since it's not a gloss finish the figuring doesn't look flashy, just organically beautiful.

For real though, I promised myself I wouldn't order one until I have the opportunity to play one. I played MTD Kingston basses for a couple years, but never tried a US MTD

I’d love to see a snap of the back if you’d be happy to. I think all of the nebula bursts I’ve seen have had a single tone of purple on the backs which still looks nice, but I’ve always thought it should carry over.

Do what I did, put down a deposit for the build and figure out how to get it over the next year.
To be honest, the leap of faith is the hardest part. My first mtd was super 5 #3 that I got used (six months old) for 3600 bucks. That was only a few years ago. Now a 6 month old goes for more than my new order cost. So I get that it feels like stepping off the deep end. I will say, though, it was worth it.
The neck is cut how I wanted, the bass sounds and plays like I wanted, the fit and finish really is world class.
To be fair, I got a third of the cost from a small stock market investment and a good night playing Texas hold ‘em at a casino.
