NBD! My first G&L

I'll start by saying that I've owned active and passive Fender P's and J's, a few Epiphones, a Gibson EB, and a Dean.
NOTHING had the sound of this G&L, it has all the right features. I thought the electronics setup was too busy but it makes sense.
I researched these basses about a year ago when I wasn't even in the market for a new bass, a '08 Tribute L2000 came up on Craigslist for $375 and I pulled the trigger! A natural ash with a rosewood neck. Looks brand new, not a scratch on it. Can't show photos 'cause my camera is down.
I have a habit of modding basses but this one is awesome as is. When I brought it home I spent about an hour cleaning it up (a lot of grime on the FB) and restringing it with a fresh set of Rotosound steels.
I can't wait to show it off at my next gig.

You did good at that price! My personal opinion is that the Ash bodies have the best tone. And believe it or not, the electronics is not complicated enough! Let me suggest that your first mod should be adding a "single coil" position to the series/parallel switch. Definitely a mod worth doing.

Been through the same boat as you, have a P, a J, had a MusicMan copy. I just picked up an L2500 a few months ago. My first G&L and i`m loving it too. I don`t touch the other basses anymore. The only mod I have is I took the strings off and put 5 screws (more like little thru bolts) where the strings went through the body, then put the strings back on through the bridge. Tightens the bridge to the body and makes the sound even better. More sustain, a more solid tone overall and it and took care of the slight bridge lift on the one corner it had. Love this bass.

I just string through the body with super long strings and no lift issues.

Took me a while to warm up to the neck size on the Tribs, particularly the L2500. Very thick neck. Just couldn't get the feel and sound out of my head after I played it. Kept going back to play it at the store. Finally gave up and bought one.

Sorry about the thread hijack, Phendyr Loon.

I just picked up an old beat-to-hell 80's L2000 this past week. I knew it was a good bass, but after finishing setting it up properly, this thing is just a monster! Thump, growl, snap - it does them all.

My initial thoughts are that the active preamp is totally unnecessary on this bass. I didn't think I was going to like the tone controls or the series/parallel switch. Once you get away from the full-on positions, though, it's apparent how versatile this bass is.
