NBD: Never been amazed like this

Looks like your action is a bit high, there... (JOKING!!) Beautiful - congrats.

I like the action pretty low. Believe it or not, there is really no buzzing where its at now. And that's how it came setup! If you dig in you're going to get some fret buzz but not really with normal playing. Pretty amazing.

It's never been my kind of instrument, but I've always admired Mayonnes. Honestly, the neck-heels on those things are a sight to see. The craftsmanship involved is a new level, they're just superbly constructed things and even if I don't want one, that's something gorgeous to be admired.

That bass is very similar to my Alembic Epic which has a flamed maple top and a similar bridge and anchor system with soapbars. Also that body style is in a way very similar to mine.

What can I say except that I fell in love with mine years ago and HAD to own it and I've only loved it more over the years.

Yours is even more gorgeous than mine (love that stain) and my prediction is you will love yours more and more over the years as well.

Just saw your list of high end basses in that other thread yesterday, so if you're that impressed with this bass it must be something special. It is a seriously beautiful finish and quite unique. What is the weight? Also you said killer neck, how so, I love the MTD Assymetrical profile necks as they seem to work well for me I have an early Killer B 5 with a great neck.

It really is something special. Probably one of the best balanced basses (both tonally and ergonomically) I've ever played. It is really fantastic. It weighs in just under 10 lbs. So not a light weight.... but not really a heavy weight either. It's about perfect there too.

I really don't care for the MTD necks. The pre-Gib Tobias necks? Totally different story. Love those necks. MTD necks just don't feel as fast as this Mayones.

Just received a Mayones Patriot 5 string. I don't normally do "new bass day" postings but I'm simply amazed. If you know me you know I've owned a lot of really great basses. This Mayones seriously impresses. I'm really surprised by this thing. The finish is exquisite and quality is superb. This is seriously in my top 5 list. Maybe top 3 of best basses I've ever owned or played. The ergonomics have got to be near perfect for me. Neck is killer. Man these pictures probably don't do it justice.

If you are looking at MTD but want 34" you should check these out. Actually this thing takes the cake over any MTD I've laid hands on and I've owned 5 now (including a 534). Has sort of a Warwick vibe going on too with the wenge neck and dual bridge. Aguilar OBP-3 in this one with tone control and DCB pickups. Serious full punch machine.

Flame maple over ash body. Wenge and padouk neck with rosewood fingerboard. Matching headstock.

I had a great experience with Red Dragon Guitars of North Carolina and had a fantastic experience. I highly recommend that shop.

If you've considered a Mayones I say go for it. These are awesome! Here's some eye candy.

That looks like a well-made bass. The coloring and it's model name remind me of this patriotic-colored snack. And mayonnaise. Not a shot. Those fancy wood tops on a lot of Fodera remind me of frosted cookies.

Gorgeous bass, man. I keep coming back to this thread to look at it.
How would you characterize the sound of the DCBs with that preamp? I'm thinking about DCBs in my next Roscoe, but the wood combo would be much different than your new bass.

Thanks! I really like the DCB's. Maybe a bit more open top end than your typical Bartolini pickups. Not as compressed sounding either. They remind me of warmer EMG's.

OK. You all are going to laugh or say what you want... but another Mayones found its way to me. This time a Mayones Prestige. Arrived today from Red Dragon Guitars. By the way, that shop is awesome to work with. So now I have the Patriot and the Prestige. Both have essentially the same woods but the Prestige has a wenge layer and ebony fingerboard. The Prestige has Aguilar Super Double pickups. I'd say the Super Doubles are a little more vintage sounding, a bit more Jazz Bass like but certainly not entirely. Maybe a little more aggressive too. Paired with the OBP-3 it is thunderous! I've always liked ebony boards so no complaints there.

Body shapes are a bit different. I think I prefer the Patriot shape but both balance very well.

Here's some pics.
