NBD! Reverend Mercalli 5

I love mine. It's my only 5 and I don't think I'd consider another one than this one. I had been hankering after a Reverend for some time (at that time not always easy to find)--I love their guitars as well. I bought it online without playing it and never regretted it. Yours is beautiful. Play it with joy and in good health!

Exactly!! What strings would you recommend? I've been a Roto 77 guy forever, but I'm starting to experiment a bit more.

I'm a flats guy, and the la bella string through version have been great on my mercalli.

I've never played flats but I was thinking I would string one of my 5ers with them. Thanks for the recommendation.

Played around with it this morning and oh my! It lives up to it's name. Low end for days! The Split and and Thick Bricks are very "tonally" dynamic and probably the largest pickups I've ever seen on a bass. The neck taper is almost identical to my Lakeland DJ4 but wider. 9mm spacing at the nut with 19mm string spacing at the bridge. I was pretty happy about this because it's a slim jazz neck, but wider. "The Mule", by comparison, is 8.5mm at the nut and only 16 at the bridge. Which plays completely different.

I'm looking at Reverend basses more seriously now.

hhh, I'm moving from 4 to 5 which is why I picked this up in the first place. I've never been interested in playing a 5 until I bought "the Mule" which is a 5'er and I wondered why it took me almost 35 years to play a 5'er.

This is "The Mule", also a nice looking and playing 5 String bass.

I had owned a few 5 strings before I jumped in on my Modulus Q5 and found myself asking why it didn't click before. I felt at home instantly on that bass. It clicked.

Great score on that Rev, been jonesing for one.

Great NB! My Mercalli 5 has been my #1 fiver since I got it must be more than 5 years ago.
Just great even tone and solid bass and power all the way up through the range. Light, well made.
Not super zingy with those humbuckers, so works great with strings like (my favorites) DR Pure Blues.
I currently have Daddario NY XYs on it, which are nice, but not quite as good as the Pure Blues for me.

My two favorite sounds: with the blend control slightly toward bridge or toward neck...

Thanks for sharing. I love the look of the FM style. Nice DB you have there, makes the Mercalli look small .
I'll look into the pure blues.

I have a set of D'addario nickels on the way. Being self aware, I'll probabbly end up with a set of flats on the Mercalli and keep Rotos on the Mule.

I don't know if they make them in a 5-string version but I recently put a set of LaBella Olinto flats on my 4 string Mercalli and really love them! Very balanced set of strings with a bit more high-end to them then I get from my other bass (P with Pyramids).
