In my rig and in my hands I get a different sound. Which is harder to describe. Its not like Smith or a Sadowsky modern either. Its more like if a "deeper sounding Jazz" and Musicman had a baby. However describing your own tone can be strange and silly to a degree...I will let videos do that for me.

Deeper sounding Jazz and a Musicman sounds plenty good to me.

All I can say is, thank the universe for stocks and other investments right now.
I my own record and (2) others that I'm working on. Its not a tone but I will take it. When things settle down, we need to get AJ and crew together.

I would say the Big Blades (in general) vs the Big Singles (which I have in many basses) have a slightly more mellow top end and a touch more grind (if you play hard) in the mids vs the upper mids. Also the Big Blades have a touch more bottom. Not uber subs persay but low to lower-mids.

Side note: This bass the new Trans Orange one has the pickups in parallel. My personal other TP5s with Big Singles are in series which tend to give (beside gain increase) more in the lower mids.

Right now we are working on a new PJ5 with them that will also have all maple roasted neck and Nordstrand PJ5 with a alder body. I'm stoked for that one as well to come.

I've read reports and reviews regarding roasted maple necks that state that from a sonic perspective, they're not as snappy vs. an unroasted maple neck... that the level of attack is a little "softer." One review specifically said if you're looking for the Marcus Miller slap tone, you should stick with an unroasted maple neck.

To be honest, I have not had enough time yet to say for sure...I would be presumptuous for me to say at this time.
However I will geek out vs other basses that have ash bodies but with maple/ebony necks and will A/B them.

At this time I can say, YES I can see how someone might think roasted maple is less snappy, however I have a good friend & bassist that thinks the exact opposite.

For now I will say, yes I'm leaning towards a little warmer (but not dull, by any means).

Hi Logdrum...Its a very looonggg bass with that bridge placement and being 35" scale. You might think differently if you try one. That g string tuner would be a long stretch away....We can't have the G string be that far away can we ;)...
